Chapter 3: Farewell mother Earth
The skies color has changed from bright blue to midnight black, with stars visible, yet faint due to the brightness of the planet during the dayside.
“Attention all passengers, it is now safe for you to remove your seatbelts and move freely around the cabin.”
The Captain announced. I unbuckled my seatbelt and immediately felt weightless and looked out into the windows, seeing Earth so beautiful and vibrant.
“While I have seen images of earth from this view, I have never had a view like this in my life. It’s quite surreal!” I said to myself while trying to withhold my excitement.
“In approximately five hours, we should meet up with the Terran Gateway station for your extended transportations modes beyond this planet and to Chakona.”
The captain announced once again.
I had even brought my camera to cherish the moment.” Allen said,
“Avo, you do realize once we leave Earth, there’ll be so many more things to photograph, explore and discover. This is only one of the aspects of this journey.”
Four and a half minutes later, we arrive at the Earth Gateway station but wait approximately half an hour due to security checks and ensuring the docking position is correct.
“Attention all passengers, we are now beginning to dock to the gateway gates, please prepare all belongs to be stowed away in your personal baggage and buckle up in case of any instability during the maneuver. Thank you and we hope to enjoy your visit.”
The onboard intercom announced. Once the doors opened, all the passengers walked out in an orderly fashion but I was still gathering some of my personal belongings, however I finally left two minutes later. Allen and Rosetail meet-up with me at the gate and Rosetail told me, “This is it Avo, we’re finally going to fly to the stars at long last. I’ll bet you’ll enjoy this a whole lot more than back on Terra Firma.” Shi said. I responded, “Well, I may enjoy it and so, getting used to a new home is another thing apart from the new experiences of traveling to new destinations”
Rosetail then also asked,
“Why dearly do you want to start a new life as a chakat?”
“It’s a long story. Something I’ll have to save once onboard the vessel.”
I replied as Allen, Rosetail and I were walking towards another gate booth, but this time it was for transportation from Terran to Chakona. The shuttle was a star vessel owned by a private enterprise but was operated by merchant star fleet officers. Once the three of us approached the booth, we handed our passes and placed our baggage’s onto the conveyer belt to be loaded onto the vessel.
As of three of us boarded the ship, which was a small, medium sized passenger vessel, we walked into a large, rather welcoming lobby and to top all of that off, we were greeted by joyful entertainment going onboard before departure and farewell. We saw and gazed on the exotic performers, plus many morphs raving and cheering as the performance went on. “The music, the culture, the atmosphere. Hmm, to be honest this is making have some butterflies in my stomach.” Allen, Rosetail and I were given our keys to our berths and we unpacked our luggage once we got in. The rooms were no more than a motel but nether-less better off than a third class berth on the Titanic. Soon, the captain gave a notice to all of its passengers including us,
“Greetings all occupant’s, this is the captain speaking. In an hour or less, we should begin closing our doors and backing off from the gate to begin our voyage to the Chakastra system. We hope you enjoy the most of your stay and be sure to take a good look through our lovely views of space.”
An hour later, the doors began closing and the small, individual tug vessels helped pushed our ship away from the docking gateway and into open space. We were in our berth when the event took place, we already noticed a bit of some acceleration and see the gateway creeping away from us slowly.
We were finally leaving Earth and heading for our new home. Five minutes later the engines ignited and the whole vessel began departing the station and heading out towards deep space to begin warp space.
“Attention all passengers, this is your captain speaking. We are now engaging the main engines and leaving orbit. Once we leave orbit, the vessel will begin its warp phase of your journey to the Chakastra system.”
Like what the captain mentioned, we all felt the small but noticeable engine acceleration and slowly, we saw the Earth gradually shrink in size.
About 2 hours and 25 minutes later, I saw the whole Earth and I even covered it all with my thumb entirely.
I knew it from that point; Terra was just another world amongst the many other systems people longed to. “I can see my home from here!” I exclaimed. “Look, I can also see some of the aurora borealis around the poles.” Rosetail said. Then, shi confessed to the two of us, “Terra has never looked so fragile and precious this far away. Honestly, I have to admit am going to miss my home planet, and despite the horrors and conflicts from the humans first group terrorizing us, it was our first home before Chakona. Before FTL (faster than light) engines were developed, it was all we got, including the Moon, Mars and solar system. But thanks to the creation of the chakats which we were developed to explore and survive on habitual but hostile worlds, we needed to find a new home to start fresh and be truly independent from humanity’s oppressive philosophy.” Later, the captain announced.
“Attention all passengers, we are about to shortly make our jump into warp space. As that happens, you will suddenly see the planet disappear before your eyes as we move space around ourselves.”
The ship was starting to create some sort of subtle ambient noise, which was due to the warp engine beginning to warm up. Meanwhile, the three of us were inside of our berth together, Allen then asked me a question relating to this, “Have you ever even been to space at all before Avo?” I replied non-hesitantly, “No, but this is going to be my very first. I have even thought of making this a part of my career once I graduate from Declaw University. I am a space nut after all.” The captain suddenly announced from the intercom,
“Attention everyone, we are beginning to initiate warp. Countdown from 60 seconds will begin now…”
Shortly after the announcement to countdown, we started to notice outside of the spacecraft window, was this subtle field being generated, as a warp field when the initialization starts.
From this moment forward, there was no turning back home now. “25 seconds to warp. 20 seconds to warp speed.” The captain announced once more. Fifteen seconds later, the moment of truth we have awaited since station departure, “ Five, four, three, two, one… INTIATING WARP NOW!”
Before my very eyes, our beloved Earth suddenly vanished into darkness and we were well on way to the Chakastra system to start our new lives.
“Goodbye mother Earth and thank you for all you have provided us.”
I said to myself. The interstellar journey for us however will take about two and a half months for us to reach.
