Chapter 4 Chakona Ahoy
“Avo, Avo… What are you up to silly?” A young, human female was asking me why I looked embarrassed and confused. As I found myself lying on a grass field with hills, I said in my head, ” It looks so surreal, I think I am dreaming… So, I decided to do something stupid to wake myself up. However, I really did not have to cause I was woken in my sleep by Rosetail,
“Avo, I brought you something to eat while I was at the cafeteria aboard the ship.”
Shi said. I woke up, lethargically as I got up and rubbed my eyes. It was about two-ish months, with only a few more days till arrival. I went to go see what Allen was up to but was sidetracked and took a glimpse at Rosetail. Shi was murring sadly to hirself on hir bed and I asked,
“What’s wrong Rosetail?” Shi looked depressed and said to me, “Oh, just some things that have came to my mind since we left Earth. It’s just that I was recently informed via phone call from my friends that my parents house was set on fire and they all perished due to the heinous acts of the dreaded humans first group.”
Shi mentioned sadly. “Well, those are just some of the worst of humans, and you are friends with one of the best humanity has to offer.” Shi then proceeds to snuggle with me, and hug deeply while sitting on the bed.
“Rose, this is your first time going to space, isn’t it?”
I questioned. Shi then nodded yes. “Well then, I supposed the two of us will share our first time moments in deep space.
45 minutes afterwards, the captain made an announcement,
“Attention all passengers, today’s live entertainment will consist of a play involving the man, Dale Perkins who suddenly was transformed into a chakat due to a teleporter incident. It is a musical based show and will move all of our hearts to accepting change and knowing that there are many people out there who care for others.”
To everyone onboard, including my two friends thought it was such a coincidence to watch since of course, I was going to take the Oceanwalker process to a chakat once I land on Chakona.
“I’m going to go and make sure there is some good seating nearby in just a few minutes.”
I told Rose and Allen. Afterwards, we returned to our berth and were ready to catch some Z’s, I remained the only one up doing some online research more about the immigration process and looking up on information of Dr. Oceanwalker and the clinical trials taking place. Once that was done, I simply called it a day and went to sleep and said to myself,
“I surely cannot wait to lay my eyes on Chakona after getting away from that dreaded planet I used to call home. It’ll be one hell of a life to live.”
***
A few days later, sometime in the morning we woke up to a voice from the intercom,
“Attention all passengers on board, our journey to Chakona has is reaching it’s very end and we are going to dock in a few hours so make sure to pack up all of your belongings, cause as of now we are about to jump out of warp and begin orbital insertion to meet up with the Chakona Gateway station.”
“Well here it is, my new home planet”
I said to myself.
“I’ll be packing up while you continue to smile and glance at Chakona getting closer. Silly you.”
Rosetail smirked as shi said. I also began to pack my stuff as well. Five minutes afterwards, Allen came up to me and told me about a call that I just missed from my phone.
“Avo, I found your phone was ringing about 15 minutes ago. The call was from Oceanwalker and shi left a voice mail about your appointment reminder for next week.”
I nodded and listened to it for myself. Afterwards, I made a reminder on my phone just to not forget in case. Meanwhile, few hours into the last bit of the 3-month long voyage, our windows view of Chakona was increasing and just by an hour later, the windows are completely filled up by the view and eventually the vessel rotates back horizontally.
“Look!!” I quietly shouted to my friends inside the berth, as I pointed towards a small object, which happens to be the Chakona Gateway Station in the distance. Slowly as it got closer, the beacon lights welcoming us would grow in size along with the station itself.
“Time to start getting our luggage together before the crowd madness starts when we dock, I said to Allen and Rosetail. Rosetail took a quick glance through the porthole, seeing some of the stars, including Chakona’s two Moons, Ka'turna and Cha'turna.
“Guys, I think I know where to find a place nice to stay till you are scheduled to my appointment with Oceanwalker.”
I said. As I decided to go to one of the shelves near the ship’s lobby, where there were shelves of tourist and immigration brochures, I saw a handful of housing, apartment and hotels for us to sleep into.
“I’ll probably have to take the chakonian brochure for new immigrants and housing. They do have quite an aggressive employment program by the way as they mentioned.”
I spoke to myself. Allen, Rosetail and I took our carry-on belongings with us and had the ship’s crewmen take it to the loading area outside to a conveyer belt for security scans.
Meanwhile, we walked off the ship through the tunnel and were met by a cadre of immigration officers awaiting inspection of new arrivals. We were pat down along with the rest of the arrivals and were scanned through a metal detector and finally were asked to present them our interstellar passports and immigration papers.
Once those were finished, we collected our luggage and got to walk through the gateway hall to Chakona to board our space plane to land at the spaceport on the ground. “Ooooh, that fresh breeze of air flowing through my fur!” Allen said to himself.
“Look at some many of the other morphs. There’s a whole crowd of ‘em around and alive. Also, the culture looks phenomenally diverse.”
I said to myself. Neither of us knew exactly where to go. However, we suddenly spotted a directory map with a layout of where we were and where we would like to go. One of the staff working there was a male Vulpimorph and approached us and asked us,
“Do you need any assistance of any kind?”
I answered,
“Yes indeed. Can you help us find a way to get our luggage to the Chakona space-ground transport please?”
Sure he said and then showed us to the booth of the transport service.
We all huddled along and had our luggage taken in at the booth for our Chakonian transport plane. Before we all boarded the space plane together, I took a look inside the cabin.
The cabin appearance had a light blue tint and neon glowing streak on the floors of the passenger aisles. Above all that, I was yet surprised to find myself as one of the only humans aboard. Alienating but was a new, welcoming change to see many interesting cultures and shapes and sizes of people varying from species, mostly chakat and morphs.
But of course I will be considered a would-be chakat. Simply nobody else knows about it yet.
“Allen, Rosetail. I found a few seats left near some of the window aisles for ourselves.” I mentioned. Allen then asked me, “Avo, once we get on the ground; do you know where exactly where we will stay till we find housing?” I then explained and showed,
“Allen, I found this brochure at one of the lobbies aboard the star vessel we disembarked a few hours ago. This is quite comprehensive and should help us considerably along our journey.” 30 minutes after getting settled in, the captain announced,
“Good afternoon all ladies, gentlemen and gentle furs, this is your captain speaking. As soon as we close the doors we will begin undocking and then proceed to deorbit for entry into Chakona airspace. Please make sure all personal belongings and carry on items are stowed away prior to undocking, entry and landing approach. Thank you and we hope you enjoy your visit or new home on Chakona.”
10 minutes later, the doors to the cabin and the gateway closed off and the craft backed away using it’s RCS system to distance itself into clear space. Soon after, the engines go into retro mode and begin burning at retrograde.
We are beginning to enter the atmosphere of Chakona for the first time. As the space plane used its retro rockets to lower it’s orbital velocity, we felt a mild jolt as the seatbelt signs were lit up in the event it takes place.
After about a 2-½ minute burn, the cabin was free of the mild pull of gravity from the burn, but our decent into the atmosphere began.
“As you take a look into the atmosphere, we are beginning to heat up as we slow down and decelerate just so to safely cruise and land at the international space port of Chakona.”
The captain announced. I even began to witness red, illuminated heat form around the fuselage and wings. The window I placed my palm on was getting about as hot as an oven preheating to 365 degrees.
“Also everyone, be sure to keep your hands away from the windows at this time due to the reentry heat of friction being formed by the atmospheric deceleration.”
The captain informed us once more.
About half an hour into the flight after entry, the skies through the windows were no longer bluish dark and now a bright, cloudy blue sky. As I took a view through the window, I can see Chakona and it’s cities below. Everything looked so small as it is, and the view is only going to increase in size, as we get closer to landing. The captain suddenly announced with an airliner tone beep,
“Attention all passengers, in fifteen minutes we will final approach so please stow all personal belongings and have all seats and trays to upright position prior to landing.”
I before stowing my belongings, I took a quick glance at my brochure for housing.
“What are we going to do?”
I asked myself. As I was sitting along with Rosetail, Allen who was taking an in-flight nap was starting to wake up due to the sudden occurrence of the captain’s intercom message.
About 17 minutes afterwards, the plane was beginning it’s final approach to the space port and I, along with my friends and the passengers were starting to feel some subtle shaking as we got about several hundred feet, traveling at merely 265 mph.
Soon after, the planes gears deployed and once it was inches near the ground, it suddenly made a sound about a close to a thump as all of the gears touched the runway and slowly came to a full stop. From that moment on, my friends including myself will make our stand on Chakona.
