"I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever.
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven."
It is said that your mother will protect you with the same ferocity as a lioness protecting her cub.
Even though the unconditional love between parents and offspring is biological to perpetuate the species, it's that sort of magic that is not to be taken for granted.
It's not really a matter of blood or heritage. Whether you're her own or adopted, your mother will always be there for you. As cliché as it sounds, it's true. She's always there, ready to pick you up when you're down, to support you no matter how much of a loser you turn out to be, to fight for you without caring if you're right or wrong when you run out of your own strenghts. She's always there to give you both open space and safe haven. Even when you might think she does not treat you fairly, she's doing her best to make you a better person. She doesn't care how much you differ from the rest of the pack. She's always there to help you on your journey.
It doesn't really matter if you're ten or thirty - for it will always stay the same for your whole life.
I'm really a lucky little bastard to have a mother like that. Even though we fight often, since we're all but literally fire and ice, I know she would breathe for me if I needed it.
So yo, guys out there, don't be that much of an ass as myself, go to your mom and give her a hug. You'll only repay her one of the hundreds she gave you.

Can I ask a question, and I don't want to sound like a jerk at all, I promise. I believe you, and I do think that mothers are that way, but... what if your mother isn't that way? What if at every turn, she tries to break you down? Every time you try something new, she says its stupid and that you're just going to ruin your life. Would you consider that a mother, even if she is your biological mother? What should you call the person who, in social terms, you call mom, when if you read things like this, she does none of it? Is there something wrong with you, or with her?
Sorry, I really wish my mother was like that. For all of those who have mothers who are like that, or don't believe it, really look at who is your Mom. Not everyone has someone like that to call Mom. I don't want pity, or sympathy. I'm not trying to be a martyr, I swear. Like he said, give your Mother a hug and say I love you every once in a while. She may be surprised, but it'll make her smile. :) Not everyone has someone like that, so don't take it for granted.

Trust me, you don't sound like a moron. Everyone is forged out of a different mold and by a different life experience. Your words are just as worth reading as mine. Maybe even more.
As for your point - I can tell how you feel. I have a "father" of that sort. It's partially why I let another man to shape me as a person. And even though I still call him by his name and title on the outside, inside I know he's the one I should call "dad".

Where as my "Mom" tries to break me down at every turn, my Dad wasn't ever there. My parents broke up when I was 2, and so was kinda.... well, left there. I lived with my mom and grandparents, but for my life I felt as though I were mostly an after thought. *shrugs* I've accepted it now, but I always try to show people what they have so that they don't think they have something like I have. My "Mom" has never praised me in her life. My Dad is trying now to be a part of my life, after almost 19 years of never being there, so that is something. I don't hate my Dad for it, don't get me wrong. He was getting clean and sober, so I praise him for doing that just to be back in my life. I dunno... I guess I just wanted people to know that as much as it sucks when your parents bitch to clean up your room, or act right, or have better manners, it's worlds better than nothing at all. When you get a perfect score in elementary school on a test to show your Mom how well you can do, and all she does is look at it and shrug her shoulders... Nothing hurts more than getting nothing. Even when a parent gets angry, it's something and it means they care. It may suck, yes, I'm sure. I can't say I know what it's like really, but you know that when the argument is over, you still love them. Don't forget that, and don't ever take it for granted or forget it. Love comes in many flavors and ways, so always look for that before you think they don't give a damn. Always...
