As a Djinn, it's sort of Rhys' job to grant people wishes. Also as a Djinn, there's this ugly notion that he needs to be trapped in lamps.

Rhys hates lamps. They're so fragile and cramped. No room for lazing out in sunbeams and what not. So that's why he's trying to break this one, to little success.
