Do you have broadband? VOIP seems to be a reasonable solution for a lot of people...

We just pay mad dollar for unlimited long distance calling... because EVERYONE worth calling is long distance from here x_x

I can't afford it either... I'm just lucky the people I live with can... all told, it's on the order of $95/month for the DSL/phone package.

Now may be a cool time to check out Skype though... It's free from computer to computer - all you need is broadband. They also claim that calls to landlines are free until the end of the year (?), though I don't know if there are strings attached or what...
