So I did this as an exercise in good melody writing because normally I focus far more on the harmony. This piece has very little harmony.
What I did was I improvised a melody by singing the words "I have walked far, my dear" in an Irish accent. And then I transcribed the melody I sang note-for-note onto this cello part here. Then I started singing "doo doo doo" which is the flute section. Then I went back to singing the words (cello re-entrance). So this whole song is technically improvised except the flute's harmony I added to the cello part at the very end.
I think it's a pretty little Irish sounding tune. =) Enjoy!
(And, yes, nerds, I did start singing in Dorian mode without thinking about it. xD)

My advice would be to either 1. have the cello and flute actually playing simultaneously, or 2. make the individual melodies a little faster - a good way to keep a melody interesting over time is make it nice and speedy. Nothing wrong with a little harmony in the melody, either - try adding some double-stops here in there in the cello track.
Hope that helps.

Thanks! :) The reason there aren't double-stops currently is because the cello part is a direct transcription of a vocal improv, and I am not talented enough with my voice to produce two notes at once. xD But if I end up doing a flute quartet version of this (and I very well may) there will be extensive harmony to (hopefully) keep it a little bit more interesting.
I hope you liked it. ^^
