To answer a rather common question the past few years, especially since I posted [this] earlier in the morning~!
Why do my "personal" characters have a weird eye/scar?
To be honest- when I made my first official fursona (Ruby, to the left) it was merely a play on old habits. I always drew [and still do a lot] faces to the left out of habit & wanted something to show on that side. I'm a sucker for scars as it is, lol. The original concept was the "blind eye" lacked a pupil but was otherwise normal.
The more recent concept (Nanu, in the middle) I honestly emphasized on the fact that I'm near-sighted in my left eye. Not quite astigmatism [tho that would be cool looking] but it gives me headache problems a lot. I extended the scar for aesthetic reasons. Also worked with something I think is incredibly awesome in animals; coloured sclera (white of the eye) and in the blind eye, the iris/pupil "bleed out" into the sclera sometimes too.
Lastly- my manga dude, Mako. He originally just hijacked the old design on my fursonas. Eventually his story actually gave reason for such, so now the scar is jagged to show the result of stitches etc, just lacking the pupil. The blind eye was blue for awhile, but after being accused of copying a certain someone I just chose to be slightly more realistic with a lighter green instead.
;P That's about it, sorry I can't say that I have some sort of epic IRL scar in my own eye or the bi-coloured thing. It's just fun to draw, lol.

Haha that's awesome. I used to do something similar with my characters and now I'm thinking about bringing it back.
My main character used to be drawn with a notch [or a few] in the right ear. I felt it was too trendy, so I nixxed it after a while, but I kind of miss it. The reasoning was that, while my left ear is a normal, round shape, my right is BENT weirdly at the top. The notch[es] were to kind of convey that, since you can't really make a pointy cat/wolf/hyena/goat/rabbit ear even pointier. XD

You should! Especially if it's based off of something particularly visible on yourself. :O Also for me, though I don't know how I'd incorporate it...I've partially lost hearing in my left ear [q-tip accident ftl] and pondered if I should put that in some how? lol. I'd love to see some more personal art from ya, but I could understand your mass of commissions! <'3
You could always cut the ear all the way off. 8D Haha. Or maybe bandage it in some way? I hate q-tip accidents. :( But I can't stop using them after showers, I hate water in my ears.
I've been MEANING to draw more random personal art. Just loose sketches like the one I did the other day, at least. I hate finishing things. XD But then, I prefer more simplistic stuff...when I'm drawing it, anyway. :P Great detail is amazing when pulled off well.
