This is one of the major subsidences in the road caused by the coal fires that still burn beneath the town. This road was closed down and a detour highway now carries traffic past the destroyed road. The heat that is emanating from these cracks is surprisingly intense, almost like sitting near a small camp fire. And maybe it was just me, but the ground felt warm to walk upon.
