I've been meaning to draw Scarecrow for a while, but between quite a few projects and life just beating me upside the head, I haven't had the time. That was until my apartments' faulty fire alarms started going off at 4:30am this morning. And in the midst of being terrorized out of sleep, I thought what better way to pass the time than drawing fear personified, Dr. Jonathan Crane of DC Comics, aka, 'The Scarecrow.'
Scarecrow was actually a character I had to just stop and think about before I started drawing, because there are so many different elements to be mindful of. His suit beneath, I just basically took inspiration from the Animated series, but gave it my own twist, applying belts and harnesses where I assume Scarecrow keeps his fear gas. And to mask his more skinny appearance, I tossed on a busted trench coat and scythe, reminiscent of Scarecrow's appearance in 'Batman: The New Animated Series,' when he was voiced to perfection by Brainiac himself, Jeffery Combs.
The key difference is the fear gas dispenser I wired to his right arm. I figure, instead of using concentrated needles like in the Arkham games, Scarecrow would just fire a larger burst of his fear gas across a wider range with that wrist-mount.
And finally, there was the mask. This one was tricky because I didn't want to just make something people had already seen before, yet at the same time, I needed it to be both familiar to the character and one that looks unsettling. Well, it actually HELPED that I was in a bad mood when I made this, because I was much more intensely darkening all the edges to the mask and increasing the eyehole without ever showing the eye, all the while, cursing at whoever installed faulty equipment in this apartment... 'XD
And this was the end result. I maintain that I may not be the best artist, and still have ways to go, but of the four DC Rogues I've worked on thus far, I think this personally might be my favorite of the bunch.
Of course, any comments or critique, as always, is greatly appreciated! :)

The mask is a bit wonky, but I suppose it works. It sort of reminds me of a pumpkinhead, which, considering the character of the Scarecrow was partially inspired by "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," is rather fitting. The rest is pretty good, though.
Sincerely,
The Cheshire Cat's Master
