The Darkness Takes a Rest
Lucille would let out a groan, as she recovers herself. Looking around, she would only hear the grunts of the dragon that she brought with her into this place. “Ugh. Maybe not the best idea to-” A caw would surround her. “To knock us into some random portal? Now you’ve really made me mad, and though you won last time… you won’t win here.”
Lucille would shiver, even with her fur. “Where are we?” She would feel Karasu swoop near her, sending a cold gale at her, and making her move to not get hit! “It has many names… The portal says Midnight Moon.” he chuckles, lower than normal, and hard to pinpoint a direction.
“Welcome to the one place as dark and cold as my heart. You fought me before when I used wind… Now, I have the full power of Darkness, no fire can light this place, just like my heart as well...” he chuckles, his next swoop would strike Lucille right in the back, sending her flying into a crater.
“What kind of fight is this?” she grunts as she gets up, “I can’t see a blasted thing and you just hide like a coward and wail on me?!” she asks, narrowly dodging his next strike. “I’m no coward!” he caws, Lucille would shout, “Your whole strategy is nothing but hiding and cowering!”
She would feel the darkness turn even colder, dropping to all fours, “Same as your plan in life too, just hide and avoid everything because it’s too hard for you!” Karasu would let out a roaring caw, “Nobody talks to me that way! I am Karasu, now feel the fury of my cold, dark, heart...” Lucille would feel a gust, a spiral, forming near her.
“Oh come on!” she would try to sense where it is, but fail… “You’re so over-dramatic. Maybe people were mean to you but you’re just a slightly weird dragon!” The wind would pick up, “No light exists here, how can you be so sure any exists within me?!” Lucille would push herself up, noticing… the ground is warm as she rises.
“So this whole thing is a metaphor? There’s light and warmth buried under the ice, I’m sure there’s the same in your heart, you just want to bury it.” Lucille would sprint, noticing something else, finally. The staff!
“You can’t run from THIS!” Karasu roars, sending the tornado finally at the fox, who would stare wide-eyed at the movement, before being sucked in, she would grab the staff. As it collides, she would feel it reverse direction as it sucks her in. “ACK!”
Karasu would chuckle, flying downward, right into the tornado as he fails to notice the reversal, “H-hey what AAAGH!” he would let out a shrill squawk, as the pair are carried upward, thrown with great force.
They would black out a moment, returning, they would find themselves planet-side… flying toward the ground. “WAKE UP! Pull up!” Lucille would shout, grabbing at Karasu’s wings. “Ugh… Heh, I can survive the fall without them.” he says, but with another squawk, they would be caught by the wind, the fox whacking Karasu with the staff as they land.
Karasu would wake up holding said staff, back in the female form. Lucille would finally be gone, replaced by a… kangaroo? “You must be one of those dragons, then?” she would ask.
