MATTHEW AND ALAIN RECONCILE, ENDING BITTER, TRAGIC RIVALRY

The climax of for the M.E.R.O opening ceremony was when Professor Sycamore stepped forward, announcing to the audience the most anticipated handover for the ceremony. He then asked for the two participants to come forward.


Prime Advocate against Mega Evolution Matthew Lim stepped forward, with the symbol of his greatest triumph yet in hand. At the same time from the other side his now humbled rival the one-time Kalos Champion Alain mirrored his steps towards the centre of the stage. Halfway towards the centre, Matthew was cheered on by some supporters, chanting his famous Moniker “Mega Slayer”. Matthew stopped to turn to the audience and played his gesture to his supporters, slowly but somewhat with some satisfaction raised his hand holding Alain’s Mega Ring, the prize that he took on defeating his rival.


Matthew’s supporters roared in cheers and joy upon seeing their hero acknowledging their support for him. The massive cheering and raving however seemed to have unnerved the majority of the audience as well as Alain, who seems to shown some level of unease with a section of the crowd that seemed to have developed a cult following for his rival.


Seeing the crowd beginning to become unruly, Professor Sycamore appealed for calm while at the same time played to their passions.


“I can see the wide and powerful support that you all show for our famed hero and I appreciate such enthusiasm,” Professor Sycamore said, “But I wish to point out that this is not the time to condemn or argue over the petty things of the past, especially over these two. This is a time to end the feuds that have divided us, and make anew, a promise for a future that we can strive for.”


Matthew then proceeded to the centre of the stage, joining Alain and Professor Sycamore.


Professor Sycamore gave a short speech to the crowd, briefing them over the now-infamous rivalry Matthew and Alain had over Mega Evolution, climaxing with Matthew’s victorious battle over Alain in Lumiose City.


“We celebrate today not as a victorious side over a defeated one, but as a united hope for the future,” Professor Sycamore said, “As great as Matthew’s victory in Lumiose City was, a greater victory will be achieved today for all of us, as Matthew returns the Mega Ring he took as a war prize from Alain.”


Professor Sycamore said, it took great effort to convince Matthew and Alain to reconcile, saying Matthew’s victory had indeed came at great cost for both sides.


“We all know of Matthew’s achievements and his journey that has led us to this day, not to mention the suffering and humiliation that he had to endure. It would only be natural that Matthew, seeking revenge and vindication, would take Alain’s Mega Ring as a symbol of his triumph over his rival. Yet where Matthew’s suffering ends, is where Kalos’ own began. Since this climatic battle, the region has endured much suffering, be it from delayed recovery efforts and the continued split from the Mega Evolution debate,” Professor Sycamore said.


“Rightful as Matthew’s taking of Alain’s Mega Ring as a war prize may have been, it only served to divide the Region further. Some expressing fear, shock and horror at this unprecedented act, while others condoning it as the right thing to do. For my part, I appealed to his sense of honour and humanity to return the mega Rings as a great heroic service to the Kalos Region and to Alain himself. I am more than happy to know that he has agreed make this day possible.”


“Today, we can finally find closure as members of Task Force Terra, led by Matthew, have agreed to returning the seized Mega Rings and Mega Stones back to their original owners. We can find no better symbol of that in Matthew and Alain coming together for this handover,” Professor Sycamore concluded.


Professor Sycamore then asked for Matthew’s and Alain’s female companions to step forward as witnesses to the handover. Matthew’s wife Eliza Thornberry and Alain’s companion Mairin received a warm applause as the two came forward to stand by their respective partners.


Matthew and Alain, looking at one another for the first time since their epic battle, initially struggled to meet eye to eye. However, in a moment of reconciliation, Matthew handed out Alain’s Mega Ring, offering it to Alain as to restore him the coveted war prize. Alain, at first reluctant, eventually accepted Matthew’s offer by taking the Mega Ring. Eyewitnesses stated that Alain had been moved to tears by Matthew’s unprecedented act. Meanwhile the crowd, awed by this moment began to applaud the two.


As Alain accepted the Mega Ring, Alain struggled to ask for Matthew to forgive him for what is widely known to be an insult to Matthew's honour and (more surprisingly) his insults towards his wife Eliza Thornberry. Matthew seems to be ready to forgive... and forget.


On seeing the success of the handover, Professor Sycamore declared the most bitter and poisoned rivalry, that has entered the history books, to be over.
