I'm also trying to get to this point in the future... but I am more comfortable with lines AND most people know me to be the "comic artist". I really love a more "painted", "line-less" style, too... but I guess it's not for me.
Anyway, this here does look good!! :3
And I think that the solution to this is... using shading in a good way. Well placed shades work better than lines, I suppose.

It definitely came out as well as with lines :D
But if you really want to focus on those more, you should add little more details (like visible scales on body, if such exist), adding textures on clothes and armour parts and other things. This would lead to more realistic style though, so I'm not sure, if it's something you aim for.
But again, it is looking really good :D
