This was my first experience with DnD. We were level one, my mom's boyfriend decided to throw a gelatinous cube at us which killed my mom's cleric immediately, then have a displacer beast roaming the halls. Suffice to say I hated the game, and my mom had a long talk to him about what is proper. I've since grown to like RPGs again.
