Welcome to another episode of Logo Bunch! Today, I'm gonna so something that I haven't covered in Logo Bunch yet: make a Video Game Console episode about Sega Consoles. I mostly talked about Nintendo and modern consoles in past episodes, but never in the series I talked about a Sega console until now. Anyways, this episode was suggested by SEGAMasterGirl on Deviantart. The first Sega console she requested is the most well known console in the late 80s and 90s. That is the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive in the European and Japanese territories). The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is considered to be Sega's magnum opus, releasing some of the most top games released for the system. You name it: Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, & 3 & Knuckles, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Altered Beast, Bonanza Bros., Comix Zone, Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe, Shinobi 3, Shining Force, Streets of Rage, Vectorman, the list goes on. For North American audiences, they ported the Mega Drive over there by changing the Jap./Eur. name to "Genesis" because of trademark disputes. Also, Sega are trying this hard to compete with Nintendo with the NES. However, Nintendo knew about this so much that in 1990, they created their own 16-Bit console that will catch up on Sega's tracks with the SNES. And thus, the 16-Bit Console Wars had begun. Like the Game Boy, the Genesis went a long way until it's discontinued in a later year. Now, most of the Genesis can still be played on collection discs such as the Sega Genesis Collection on PSP and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3, PSP, and Xbox 360. But now, we're going from its most popular console to its last. Fast forward to 1999 when Sega released the Dreamcast. After the Sega Saturn didn't hold up well to compete with the PlayStation 1, Sega decided to have another attempt to compete against the PS1, Nintendo 64, and later on, GameCube. And thus the Dreamcast was created. And guess what? It didn't hold up well either. Although I do remember what games they released for the Dreamcast. Of course, there's Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, Samba De Amigo, Shenmue 1 & 2, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, Jet Set Grind, Space Channel 5, ...and that's it. Even though it was short-lived from 1999-2001 in the US and Europe, it still held up well in Japan until discontinued in 2007. After the failure of the Dreamcast, Sega decided that they will no longer make first-party consoles and instead become a third-party publisher and developer for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. That's pretty nice of them to do this to not go bankrupt, or else, we wouldn't have more Sonic games. Yeesh! Anyways, that about sums up this episode of Logo Bunch!
