Originally I had her holding a Japanese Saturn, but I figured she'd just use an Action Replay cart to bypass region locking.

Sadly for myself I enjoyed a saturn for only a year before my mother sold it off, then my grandparents went to replace it and wound up giving me a genesis XD
I still loved the genesis anyways because that was super nice of em, plus hey, got games like bomberman and the six pack :3 I have all my old cartridges still.
V.V sadly the genesis didn't survive... Yay for emulators XD

That's the main thing that worries me. When I finaly had some spending money, I bought several systems for future use. But I was a teen in the 80s, so if they had problems, I wouldn't have the confidence or knowledge to fix them. Never had the room to set up a game room too. Last game I played was the Google ghost game last Halloween >.<
I've got the dead battery, too. Been wanting to fix it, but haven't had the nerve to attempt it yet. To top it off, my cart slot doesn't read, so I have no options for saving.
From what you got to play, what was your favourite title? I've been trying to find a copy of Mystara / Blazing Heroes (name change after a copyright dispute), but haven't had too much luck. Loved the game when I rented it as a tween, but never got to finish it.

The Saturn added shoulder buttons L and R. You're thinking of the Six-Button Controller for the Genesis / Mega Drive, which also had a nearly-unused Mode button on the right shoulder. It's intended use was to set the controller in 3-button mode (done by holding the button during boot or when you plugged the controller in, IIRC), though it could technically be used as a regular button. The only game I know used it was Afterburner on the 32X. I'm pretty sure not using it was a good idea, though, as the switch felt awful to use, as if there wasn't even a contact underneath the button.
Er.. the Xbox is entirely different hardware than the Dreamcast.
It doesn't run any of the same software; even the version of Windows it uses is a different kernel tree.
And the Xbox was announced well before the Dreamcast was discontinued, which would make it a little difficult for it to have been bought up AFTERward.

I guess I meant it was like a spiritual successor. There was collaboration with Sega and MS on Windows for Dreamcast, and the President of Sega left to join Microsoft after he killed the Dreamcast. Heck even the Xbox controller was inspired by the Dreamcast. It basically made sense that Sega dumped a lot of exclusives on the Xbox since so much of their last system inspired it.
Funny thing is the new kitten in the house uses one for a platform X3

For anyone wondering why people still love the Saturn, the reaon is Segata Sanshiro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eDSt8OHkx0
It's really hard though. Invisible enemies that can only be killed at point blank range with a gun that only has 1-3 shots before needing a recharge at a scant amount of stations? Also, you can only guess where they are by the sounds you hear? Whoo, you looking at one of the hardest of hard video games, right there.
You know there's a lot of game systems out there new and old and classic, but I never heard of the Saturn.
That's Diamond for yah. Loving things that are so old you never even heard of them.
One more thing: the last milestone (AP&P #100) also talked about game consoles. Wonder if the next one will too. X)

Weird fact: The Dreamcast was featured in some Gamera movies, specifically as a way to track 'mana'. Unfortunately, it never got the DVD upgrade that was rumored, though. :<
I always found it weird that it had space for two memory cards in the controller, though. I'm assuming that's because some games required it?

I remember when I bought my Saturn. It was at a vintage game shop in Chelsea, AL. I traded in a lot of shit and had to choose between the Saturn and the Nomad. Picked the Saturn. Not two weeks later bought a game lot at someone's yard sale for 20 bucks. 26 games in all. The most expensive of the lot is In The Hunt. No case, yeah, but with case is worth 80 bucks right now. Also got Nights, Daytona USA CCE, Hang On GP 95, Virtua Fighter Remix, both Virtua Cop games, and a few more. I wanna add more to it, for sure.
