Think of her as a combination of Jean DeWolff from the Spider-Man comics of the '70s and Captain Maggie Sawyer of the Metropolis Police Department of Superman: The Animated Series and the present DC comics.

I know, just wanting to put things into perspective, as some positions in the military don't exactly lead to a fast promotion. After all, the quickest way is a battlefield promotion. Sadly, that requires someone else to bite the big one in order for someone else to get promoted.
