Seventh tie-dye attempt: Black and purple crumple
My first crumple. This is made not by twisting and tying fabric, but by shallowly bunching and tying fabric with the understanding that the pattern will appear random. Why black and purple? I just like how they contrast together. When the fabric was tied, I dyed the front purple and dyed the back black (black-backed), then filled the white areas I could find with more purple. I hoped for a more even share of black and purple, but I also was wary of using too much black, since when the two dye colors combine, they tend to create...more black. So I went heavy with the purple and sparing with the black, with the (predictable in hindsight) result that there would be much more purple than black.
I made this with a 100% cotton T-shirt and Tulip-brand black and purple dyes. I sprayed the shirt with a spray bottle of soda ash water solution before tying and dyeing.
