Question: Are you also irritated that they changed the button layout?
In modern side scrolling Metroid installments, its been A for Jump, B for Shoot. That is how it's been. Jump and Shoot have for the most part always been side-by-side. That is what we are used to. And Nintendo goes and changes it on us.
Now granted, I can't speak for everyone, but I am having a HELL of a time. I keep fucking up and nearly dying because memory and instinct keeps driving me to that button scheme.
Seriously, why couldn't they have left that alone? Why the hell did they make B Jump, Y shoot, and A Aeion? I keep jumping when trying to shoot, and it is always nearly killing me. And I look like a damn fool trying to jump with the Aeion button
Repeat it with me Nintendo: A FOR JUMP, B FOR SHOOT, Y FOR AEION! Why did that not cross your mind!?!?!?!?!?!?
This layout is just AWKWARD for this die-hard Metroid fan!

Again, memory and instinct keeps making me go for the old control scheme because that is what all the modern side scrolling installments have used. Even Other M, as awkward and godawful as it was with the Wiimote at times, managed to maintain a similar feel with using the 1 and 2 buttons for Shoot and Jump respectively. I like side by side; not one on top of the other.
The difficulty is not the problem. As I said, I keep wanting to hit the wrong damned button because of years of ingrained muscle memory >_<

this is part of why the game is so hard. you get plenty of new suit powers but the ammo and health upgrades are pretty scarce until much later in the game when you have more powers. up until the last three Metroids the game is easy enough, just avoid enemy attacks and counter when you can.
