While I've never done any "official" roll-play, when I was in high school, some kids I knew ran a game. I eventually got involved (on the stipulation that I get to play as a raptor), and had a real fun time.
Far from the "roll every ten seconds" sort of thing, we would mainly just be given a situation and would wander around in character, screwing around.

Sadly, my raptor ended up being sacrificed (i.e. shot in the head) so that another party member could avoid being brought back as a mouse.

I might some day be talked into doing a role-play kind of thing again, but I would have to have the same thing I did then - a fun group of people who didn't take it too seriously. ...and I wouldn't mind being a raptor again either.
