Skully X BoJack Horseman: Sweet Disaster
WARNING: THIS CONTAINS MILD DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE. THIS ALSO CONTAINS SOME DEPRESSION-RELATED TALK AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW.
Skully held the bong up to his lips, holding the lighter as he finished off yet another bowl and held it in as long as he could. He slowly exhaled and set it down on the balcony’s wooden flooring. Everything was silent in the night with the exception of any noise he made; at least, to him it was.
He didn’t even hear the sliding glass door open to the balcony and he didn’t hear anyone calling his name. In fact, he jumped slightly when he felt a hand on his shoulder, turning to see BoJack there with a bottle of beer in his hand. “Hmm?” he asked, staring absent-mindedly at the horse.
“You… haven’t responded to my messages or calls.” BoJack said after some hesitation. “I… thought maybe you finally decided I wasn’t worth being around like most people wind up doing.”
“No, just… been depressed these last few days.” Skully replied, leaning against the balcony’s barrier. “Been keeping to myself; better off that way sometimes.”
The horse didn’t really respond to that, but joined him against the railing, taking a long swig from his beer. “So… I didn’t… screw this up?”
“No, BoJack… I already told you; through thick and thin.” Skully replied with a weak smile. “Bad days and good… I won’t go away until you want me to.”
BoJack seemed to take this to heart by his silence, setting his beer bottle on the top of the banister. “What if I don’t ever want you to leave?”
“Then, well, ‘till death do us part, yeah?” the human replied with a dry laugh. “But in all seriousness, things haven’t been too bad in life… Just been depressed.” he added, looking out over the Rainforest District. “You know I love you, BoJack.”
“Yeah, but… love me as the horse from Horsin’ Around? Or… Party BoJack?” the horse asked, looking at him.
“BoJack BoJack. Normal, everyday BoJack.” Skully replied as he turned to look at him. “Depressed, insecure, somewhat of an ass BoJack.” he added with a more playful smirk.
BoJack looked back out over the trees and gave a slight smile, though he tried to conceal it. “Yeah, well, real BoJack is a wreck.”
“Yeah, but… the real Skully is a wreck, too.” the human replied, coughing a few times afterwards. “Shit, this weed is really strong…” he said, giving a slight smile afterwards. “I’ll pack another bowl in a bit if you want to smoke with me.”
“Yeah, that sounds good.” the horse replied, moving a little closer to Skully. “Maybe two wrecks… aren’t so bad.”
“Yeah… And maybe you and I still have hope.” Skully replied, sighing slightly. “To be honest, BoJack, I gave up on myself in my earliest memories… When I lost my mother, I lost everything dear to me. And every time I’ve gotten something nice or good in my life, it always seems to go into the shitter.”
“I get that.” BoJack replied almost instantly. “But… I’m in the shitter. And so are you.”
“Yeah, well… that’s sort of true.” There was silence from Skully after that and BoJack seemed to want to say more, but stayed quiet. “Do you think I can still change, BoJack? I mean… I’ve been changing, but… I mean do you think there’s hope for me to be happy one day? Just, you know, wake up and… everything be okay? No worries, no drama, no empty feeling?”
BoJack hesitated before he answered, looking towards Skully once more. “Yeah, as much as someone can experience that; I think you can.” he said, then looked forwards again. “Do you… Am I a good person, Skully? Beneath this… person I am daily?”
“Yeah, BoJack… I think you’re just really hurting.” Skully replied, taking BoJack’s beer bottle and downing the rest of it. “I think that… given enough time and willpower, you can be one of the best guys out there. You’ve got the intelligence and ability to say what nobody else will… You’ve got fame, you’ve got money, you’ve got some really great friends… You can do anything, BoJack… You’re lucky.”
“You have friends, too, Skully… And you’ve got me.” BoJack said, moving a lot closer to him and slowly putting an arm around him. “BoJack and Skully against the world? For better or for worse?” he seemed to ask with hope and yet, with worry.
“Yeah, of course… I don’t know anyone who understands me better than you, BoJack… At least, not without some sort of powers.” Skully replied, leaning into BoJack a little. “Without a doubt, you’re one of the best people I’ve ever met… And no matter what happens, you’ll always mean something really important to me. If one of us doesn’t make it in this world… If we break up… If everything goes to shit someday… You were essential in my journey to recovery.”
BoJack looked away at this and then down a little. “Yeah, same.” he muttered, then coughed a few times. “You… Make my world a little less lonely. More than anyone else has.” he explained, slowly lowering his hand down to Skully’s and holding it tightly. “I’ll try and stay strong for you if you promise to do the same.”
“Yeah, BoJack… Sounds like a plan.” Skully replied, kissing his cheek. “I really think you should remember who your other friends are too, though… Like Princess Carolyn, Diane, Todd, and Mr. Peanutbutter.”
“I don’t think Todd likes me.” BoJack pointed out.
“He’s still upset at you, but keep trying to be a better friend and working on yourself… He’ll come around.” Skully explained.
“And I don’t really… like Mr. Peanutbutter; he’s annoying.” BoJack added.
“Mr. Peanutbutter is quite possibly one of the best friends you’ve got, BoJack. Like it or not, he’s always there for you. And I think you could benefit from some of his blissful ignorance. But I think he could also benefit from some of your realism.” Skully explained.
BoJack was going to argue against this, but his lover did have a point. He refused to admit it, though, so he just stayed quiet. “Princess Carolyn and Diane have been there a lot and I’ve put them through a lot.”
“There’s still times to fix things, BoJack…You’re only out of time when you’re out of time.” Skully replied, looking at the horse. “Don’t let Sarah Lynn be the first of many.”
BoJack immediately looked down. “I… don’t want that to happen to anyone else.” he said softly. “Promise that there’s still time?”
“Can you promise me that, BoJack?” Skully asked in return. “That I still have time to redeem my life? And stop ruining others’?”
“…Yeah, I promise. You’ve helped me, Skully… I want to do the same.” the horse replied, tightening his grip on Skully’s hand slightly before leaning in and kissing his lips softly. “I’ll stay over tonight… Probably better for the both of us.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Skully replied, grabbing his bong and heading back inside. “I think I’m going to head to bed.”
“Same.” BoJack replied, grabbing the empty bottle and making an effort to throw it into the trash, but missing. “I’ll… get it in the morning.” he said, taking his shirt off followed by his pants, leaving his slightly chubby stomach and slightly hairy chest showing. “You know, normally, I would be having sex with someone right now, but… I just don’t feel that.”
Skully chuckled as he stripped down to his boxers as well and then climbed into bed. “Maybe you’re asexual like Todd~” he teased with a slight smirk.
“I would sooner kill myself.” BoJack replied as he got into bed and pulled Skully close against him. “…Hey, Skully?”
“Yeah, BoJack?” Skully asked as he turned the lamp’s light off and closed his eyes.
“I… love you.” BoJack said after some hesitation. “And I mean it…”
“I know you do, BoJack.” Skully replied, smiling slightly. “And I love you, too.” he added.
The horse, unseen by Skully, actually seemed to smile a very content smile as he slowly closed his eyes followed by a yawn. “See you in the morning.”
“Yeah, BoJack… The morning.” Skully replied shortly before drifting off to sleep.
