Was playing some Metroid the other day and some fanart happened. Thought I'd also try and set myself a task to do a cartoon pic with minimal shading as opposed to my usual style. Kinda happy with how this one turned out.

They suggested that based on the idea that they were infected. Not only did Adam reveal that they weren't infected, the idea that they were brought upon the wrecked ship, which is full of Chozo statues... Well, take a look at all of the lifeforms on SR388. The only thing peaceful is a baby Metroid. This hints that after the Chozo made the Metroids, the ecosystem went out of balance and everything became hostile, yet for these animals to be peaceful suggests the metroids don't target them--Something that seems to only happen to those who are part Metroid, as seen in Fusion.
In other words, these guys are part metroid.
