I like to explain it by saying I've given Ba'al his own window through the fourth wall. He knows he's in a story, and he knows what's going to happen in that story because he reads ahead. Some people will skip to the end of a book to find out how it ends, so they won't be surprised. Ba'al is one of those people, but he reads his own book.
