I'm joining the bandwagon of people paying respect to the King of Pop: Michael Jackson.
I was having a discussion with my husband the other day about it and my husband said, "Good Riddance" etc about the passing of Michael Jackson. He went on about all the dark and gloomy headlines that surrounded the Late Michael Jackson for the better part of the last decade and a half or two.
I said to him, “When you go, would you want the entire legacy of your life surmised with “He was a –“ Fill in the blank?” I scoffed incredulously for a second. “I mean, the entire span of YOUR long and glorious life…And all anyone could think of you was the last few years…The ones at the end…the ones you'd want to forget-”
I continued on my rant with, "The strength and influence of a man should not be measured by just the last decade of his life. Michael Jackson was 50 years old and in that time he grew in the eyes of the public from a young boy into a man who wanted nothing more than to bring people joy through his music. For all of his eccentricities and his strange behaviors…he was still a man who brought people joy, who brought races together-“
“By switching sides?” Hubby interjected.
I rolled my eyes and continued, “He changed the face of pop music and made it something completely different. He pushed boundaries, paved paths…and influenced many things in this world. I have no doubt that he will be missed by many. Having had the pleasure of indulging on his musical style, I feel like I should be sorry and feel that I missed something great by never getting to see him in concert.”
“When I go…will you remember me like that?” Husband asked me.
“No.” I said simply, but added with a smirk. “I like to think I will remember you much more fondly than that.”
All of this said, no matter what his eccentricities, the man was a brilliant star, faded from Earth but not from the hearts of everyone he touched. You may not realize just how much he changed the face of music, but do a little research, you'll be surprised by what you find.
Sketched last night and colored quickly in photoshop.

Really awesome! I thought of doing something like this of Sombra in a classic Michael pose and outfit as a tribute...but I'd rather avoid the unplesant comments I know I'd get 'cause of it. ^^; I might try something else though...^^;
Awesome lighting here! Really gorgeous! :3
I agree with you. I've just been biting my tongue on everything. Whatever the opinion on the man, he was a brilliant musician and humanitarian. And his family is hurting deeply right now and doesn't need people hating on their brother, son, father, etc. I never knew much about him until I started watching some interviews with him and learned about him and I gained a lot more respect for him than I had. I just knew him as a musician since I grew up listening to a lot of his music.

Thanks!!
I grew up with MJ. Its a shame what the family now has to endure. I hope that the media can at least be respectful. Those kids of his are going to need the real help, and I feel like the insatiable media monster won't give them a second of peace for a long long time.

I was watching the memorial today and nothing in there hit me more than his daughter speaking and crying saying how her daddy was the best dad in the whole world. I was tearing up there. Clearly he wasn't such a bad person if his child is saying that he was the best person in the world and is hurting so much that he's gone. I just hope that people will let up and have at least a little compassion if not for honoring him, at least for his family.
So far I think the media's been good about being respectful (save one politician who said that he's sick about hearing about Michael because he was "a pervert" *rolls eyes*). But hopefully they'll let up a bit more and just let the family grieve for their loss.

Oh, I absolutely loved hearing Brooke's words during the ceremony. The way she talked about him was very beautiful and she made him seem more like a 'real person' than anyone I'd heard to date. *nods*
At the end of it, his daughter Paris said a few words and it was absolutely heart-wrenching. I went the whole ceremony without a tear until then. I don't think you could see something like that an not cry...
*thinks* Unless they're like my sister and they don't have a soul. XD

Added to my favorites in respect of the great Michael Jackson. Unfortunately, all I ever got to see about him were the "controversial" parts of his life, I never got to see the "good" Michael Jackson. I will still miss him, though. I remember when I got his song "Beat It" after getting the Fall Out Boy "Beat It," and to be honest I thought MJ's was better. I will buy his album Thriller soon in respect.
I like his songs Black or White, Thriller, Beat It, The Way You Make Me Feel, and Will You Be There (Free Willy).
In regards to the artwork, you get ***** and a cookie for your tribute. Bravo. You nailed the pose and the outfit, and presented it in a dashing way. Here, have another cookie.

"Never can say goodbye" Michael. Thanks so much for posting this Nanook. I know this is a late response but I love the spirit that you captured in this pose.
I too was deeply saddened to hear about his passing as I grew up in the 70s and have grown up on his music throughout the decades.
At the closing of the memorial, Michaels Brother Brandon said something that truly touched me. He said , "Maybe now Michael, they will leave you alone..."
