[EDIT] It's come to my attention there were some pretty major research fails in the original write-up. I sincerely apologize to anyone I offended with these glaring mistakes, and ask that any further issues be brought to myself. The failures are on my part, not anyone else's. This extends to the content of the image as well. I do not personally identify as any particular Native people, nor do I intend to. This was simply a character I created that had some bad research behind it. Again, I can only apologize and do what I can to fix the issues as they appear, so please don't hesitate to tell me as bluntly as you feel necessary.
So for a while now, I've wanted to redesign my fursona. I knew what I wanted to do, but was afraid of actually doing it, out of a fear of being offensive. But thanks to some assistance from
smokepaw, he convinced me to do the research and go ahead with it, and thus, Askuwheteau was born! And thanks to the awesome
Vlcina's YCH, I now have him completed! Does this mean I'll change my name? Probably not. People know me as Nalerenn already, but Askuwheteau is the main 'face' I wear. So, let me tell you a bit about him...
First off, Askuwheteau is not a full-blooded Native. His mother is Métis and his father is Scottish, making him a half-breed. His father was a trapper who settled into the camp for the winter months and eventually adopted their ways, marrying and settling in for good. As Askuwheteau grew, he learned from the rest of the tribe and from his father how to hunt and trade, but his strength lay in path-finding, finding all kinds of ways to get ahead of his quarry, taking it upon himself to be the scout for his father, whom he traps with often. He tends to enjoy the company of other Natives than that of the settlers however, given they tend to treat him and his father as simple, backwoods types. However, he will gladly take their custom for what he needs, be it food, resources, or the odd bit of dram, a habit picked up from his father.
