The main thing here is silhouette by contrast to get a more clear and enjoyable picture. A good example of this is the last picture that I did here

You can see this circle shape and her hair, both are attractive things for the eye, but you need to look extra hard for the details like her hand or how her tail is coiled, you need to process the shading information in order to understand the shapes inside the circle, but you don't need to think at all to see her hair or the circle shape, that is clear information. Of course you can use this at your favor, in the picture here is enjoyable/interesting to see the circle and then start looking for the details (or at least that is why I was going for XD), to see the sphere and then realize that is a character. In short words: the delivery of the information is important : )
