Did this as a painting practice/character design between commissions.
His name is Irá. He's a half-elf transman with waardenburg syndrome, and only speaks Spanish. He likes to fite bruh.
He was never actually named as a child, as his village had a custom to wait until age 5 to name their children. His village looked down upon him as a "disgusting village girl", though his mother loved and took care of him anyway. When it came time for the naming ceremony, the villagers attempted to kill him in protest, and his mother died protecting him.
They decided to let being motherless kill him off, as they had already sinned by taking the life of a "normal" person. Contrary to their faiths, though, he survived for multiple years within the village.
Whenever he would strive to initiate contact with them, they would shun him and refuse to acknowledge him directly, instead turning to the nearest person and saying "Ella irá." Literal translation, "She will go." Over time, Irá is what he came to consider his name.
At one point, a group of forest elves came to his village to put an end to their habits of destroying the surrounding nature, via mass execution. Irá hid, though was found, terrified. The elf that found him immediately took a liking, as he looked much more like a dark skinned elf than one of his fellow villagers.
He was taken into captivity where he was taught elven customs, including "validation of the spirit through the body", in which he came to accept the male identity he always had, transitioning with the assistance of elven magic. The magic being used on him activated some more dormant elven qualities, and his brown and white hair along with his dark brown eyes turned to blue and orange, respectively.
An elven woman he had grown particularly close to learned of his past, and organized for him to have a naming ceremony with the elves. Since it's tradition for the mother to name the child at the ceremony, he was expecting the elven man who found him to pick a new name for him. Instead, he announced that his name will remain Irá. Upon seeing Irá's shocked expression that he was not given an elven name, his father figure yelled out to the whole tribe "él irá lejos!"
"He will go far."
