From a very early age, Toffee showed considerable potential as a sailor, much to the joy of her mother, and the dismay of her father. She could read the winds and the tides, and in addition to knowing how to run her own ship, possessed the desirous spark that made life on the high seas worthwhile. As a youth, she befriended another young Yordle girl, Pia, who was determined to catalogue every single creature that resided within Runeterra’s oceans and seas. It was an incredible endeavor, but nothing that seemed to be beyond the scope of two ambitious young Yordles. Thus, when the two came of age, they wasted no time in setting out to fulfill their dreams, and Toffee captained a grant-funded research vessel away from the welcoming shores of Bandle City, seeking new, exotic horizons, and the creatures that thrived there.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world wasn’t nearly so kind.

Toffee and Pia very quickly developed a knack for surviving encounters with rare and dangerous beasts, along with the precious environments that they thrived within. The people that they encountered along the way, however, were perhaps a little more difficult to compensate for. Animals were often predictable in their behavior; humans less so, and it was that very volatile nature that cost Pia her life, and Toffee, an eye, as they put their trust in the wrong individuals.

Accosted and left for dead by a band of pirates that had sought to poach the very creatures that Pia sought to document, Toffee did about the only thing that any self-respecting Yordle would do. She sailed home, sold off all of her belongings and properties and used her earnings to renovate Pia’s experimental research vessel into a little ship that was dressed to the nines with all the weapons, plating, and instruments that a vengeful little sailor might need to bring hell to those that had crossed her.

Then, she pursued her quarries all the way to Bilgewater before exacting her sweet, bloody vengeance upon them. She made quite a show of it too, earning the favor (and scorn) of a few pirate captains.

With her thirst for retribution slaked and no home to return to, Toffee carved out a piece of Bilgewater for herself, soon establishing herself as a privateer, often working to protect important shipments to and from Bandle City, while accepting the odd, bloody job on the side. Toffee had come to Bilgewater – the den of Runeterra’s most vicious sea-wolves – seeking vengeance, and she left it as a member of the pack.
