It is best to let sleeping sphinxes sleep. I imagine there'd suddenly be several hundred pounds of winged, clawed fury instantly set on Norbert.

As a cat owner, I know to look before moving the computer chair backwards. Smooshed tails make you feel guilty.

I was going on the idea that Norbert was put in charge of taking care of the winged sphinx from that Harry Potter story "Goblet of fire," but the character never made it into the movies. I still like the idea that Norbert has become the Sphinx's caretaker and groom though.

I agree. Though I hope it doesn't have the same habits as a cat. Would be awkward to have one on your lap or getting on your keyboard while you're typing something...

I imagine so, especially when they don't expect it. I imagine it's similar to having one's finger crushed, judging by Charlie's reactions when I couldn't see him in the morning, waiting for his food, and I accidently step squarely on the tip of his tail.

To paraphrase the Bard a bit, "There is no greater relief than after one's tail is no longer being stepped on by a Human."

I like the reference to the off-screen action, and the way it's depicted.

Actually that teakettle was the idea that helped me recover the sketch which had lain idle for almost nine years. I wanted to imply that Norbert was going to scoot back full force from his desk without thought of what was behind him. I'm happy that it worked, and I might just use the idea again in a later drawing.

Winterbough, of course, heats the water for his tea (usually) with cantrips.

Oh that could be really handy and less dangerous than having a hotplate sitting unattended.
