MACRO MONSTER MASHUP - early beta version test
The macro game idea I have been working on for a while now and play tested some more at Eurofurence, putting it up here mainly for some feedback from the few people who bravely endured a test play to throw their comments on it.
I think it did play OK-ish, but I think it still takes too long, plays too slow, is too complicated, and the rules are too long.
So far I plan the following changes to the rules: (The rule booklet of that version 0.21 from Eurofurence is at http://download.lavadomefive.com/me.....M/Rules021.pdf if you want to re-read it.)
-Renaming "nowhere in particular" to "nowhere". (just shorter text and should be still as obvious)
-Monsters at "nowhere" cannot be attacked period.
-Clarifying that all Monsters start the game at "nowhere".
I am also pondering:
-Getting rid of the "meat" category of foods and replacing them with meeple:
It was mostly put in to represent lifestock and stored meat for more diversity and realism, to have good food in places were lots of meeple would not make much sense. But it is required for few cards only and is basically the same as meeple once consumed. It was thus also the main reason to come up with things tied to how many meeple someone ate, to have a difference at all. Removing meat, I could remove that hard to memorize meeple-eat-count factor from the game as well. (Units would in case of doubt go for the biggest monster instead of the most meeple-eating.)
-Getting rid of the rule that most City Locations can only have 1 Armor Unit on them:
The rule puts more meaning to Location types, and makes tank-spamming less likely and adds a bit more tactical depth when you fear people have many Armor Units on their hand, but you can circumvent that by using a City Location as your final game winning strike. But the situation where players try to play 2 Armor Units on such a Location is likely rather rare, and is more text that makes the rules longer.
-Renaming "Losing a Monster Action" to "Freezing", for shorter text and easier rule wording of the effects.
Any thoughts, feedback from testplay-victims and questions are very welcome. :)
