The days' second engine in service was 2-8-0 consolidation tank engine 4270. While looking fine with it's sleek Churchward taper boiler and Great Western green paintwork this is quite to opposite of the Hall, being a brutally powerful goods engine quite capable of dragging the best part of a thousand tons of coal out of the depths of the Severn tunnel.

4270 was completed in December 1919 and ran in GWR and BR service until September 1962. Surviving the scrapyard the engine has been restored to service complete with the original design cylinder block, the castings incorporating internal live and exhaust steam passages, so no external steam pipes from cylinders to the sides of the smokebox.
