I had never even heard of Kaiser Motors before I found this terrific 1954 Kaiser Manhattan. A little research taught me that Kaiser merged with Willys-Overland and eventually became Kaiser Jeep. Of course, Jeeps are still with us today.

I stand by my statement. You can still trace the lineage of the modern Jeep through the intervening mergers and acquisitions back to Kaiser Motors and Willys-Overland.

Oh I'm not arguing with you :) I'm just busting on Jeep... which is barely a car company anymore. Like Dodgem, it's soon going to be simply a marketing ploy, contract assembled by the current cheapest bidder! lol

A far cry from its Willys and Kaiser roots :/

It really pissed me off when they recently started putting a "Willys" sticker on some Jeeps. The Willys people are rolling over in their graves :/

I presume you've seen recent news about the Chinese being quite interested in buying the Jeep brand?

No, I hadn't heard that about the Chinese. They already own Hummer, don't they? And IIRC, the H1 was also a member of the Jeep family tree.

I believe. And don't they have Jaguar and Land Rover? Wow.

The H1 was the military version, wasn't it? I think that was built by AM General, which I seem to recall was a defense contracting division spun out of American Motors. So only a very tenuous linkage, if any.

Basically, it seems that all of New York is up for grabs. All I'll say is that it's better than the old one.

The Manhattan was equipped with a McCulloch supercharger to bring its rather anemic 118 hp six to 140 horsepower. Didn't save Kaiser, though. After 1954 the company moved to Argentina.
