Part 2
“Get back here!” snapped Pink as she chased a green Yoshi around the the village of Yoshi’s Island. He fled her and her rolling pin, amazingly not tipping over his untied laces of his light blue shoes. Compared to the other Yoshis on the island, this Yoshi was a few inches shorter, but had gut that was noticeably chubbier. “Yoshster! Give back those cookies! They haven’t even had time to cool off!”
“Hot! Hot! Hot!” he cried. They were still piping hot in his bare hands and burning his palms. Despite this, he held onto his stack of ill gotten cookies. “But I'm hungry!”
“That doesn’t mean you can cause trouble!” she spat as she chased him around and around the village. She pursued him till she became too tired to run. When she stopped to catch her breath, she looked around, but he was out of sight.
“Something wrong?” asked Red as he poked his head out of his hut.
“I’ll give you one guess,” Pink told Red.
“Yoshster?” he guessed.
“Who else? He swiped all the fresh baked cookies I just made and ran off with them,” she complained. “Oh, wasn’t Yoshi supposed to talk some sense into him the next time he did something like this?”
“Well, this is the next time,” Red pointed out as Blue came walking by. “Hey, Blue! You know where Yoshi is?”
“He ran off after hearing Pink hollering,” he answered. “I think he was headed for the jungle. Pink, is everything okay?”
“Except for my stolen cookies, I’m fine,” she sighed. “Nothing else I can do but hope that Yoshi can talk some sense into Yoshster and maybe even rescue my cookies.”
“Someone mention cookies?” asked Yellow carrying a fresh tray of cookies over to her friends. “Fresh from the over. Anyone want some?”
“Oh, cookies!” cheered the other Yoshis gathering around her, their moods instantly made joyous. “Yes, please!”
Yoshster made his way through the jungle and to a hut hidden on the mountain in the center of the island. Placing his stolen cookies on the table he blew on his hands that were stinging and red. When the pain subsided, he returned his focus to the cookies on the table and drooled in delight.
“Time to eat!” he exclaimed jubilantly and reached for one. Before he could, a long tongue grabbed the table and pulled it away from Yoshster and towards the door. “Who did that?”
“It was me,” Yoshi said looking disappointingly at Yoshster. “I found your little hideaway.”
“You found my secret hideout,” groaned Yoshster. “No fair. Now it’s not a secret anymore.”
“Yoshster, we have to talk,” lectured Yoshi. “You took stole cookies again, didn’t you?”
“I was hungry,” he replied and rubbed his belly. “I still am and don’t we Yoshis make cookies so we can stop being hungry?”
“We do,” nodded Yoshi. “But we don’t just take them. We Yoshis make cookies to share them. We don’t steal them just to feed ourselves.”
“But cookies are so yummy,” he cried and attempted to grabbed the cookies only for Yoshi to pull the table further away again. “Hey! Stop that!”
“You are the one that needs to stop,” retorted Yoshi. “Stop being such a pig. We Yoshis like to eat, but we are not selfish gluttons. I know it can be hard at times to curb your appetite, but you have to try. Do you think you can do that?”
“Of course I can,” answered Yoshster. “...right after I have these cook-” Quickly, Yoshster leapt at the cookies on the table, but Yoshi’s tongue was faster and he tugged the table away so the only thing Yoshster dove onto was the floor. “-ies… owie.”
“That’s not showing self control,” commented Yoshi shaking his head as he retrieved the cookies, save for one of the checkered shape ones. “Now I’ll leave you this one, but I’m bringing the rest back for the others to eat. This is sharing. It’s what we Yoshis do. It is what separates us from monsters.”
“I am not a monster,” grumbled Yoshster as he took the cookie he was left and munched it up looking much less pleased to only be given that to eat.”
“Yoshster,” Yoshi said in the kindest voice he could. “I just want you to understand-”
“Help, by boogity! Help!” cried someone nearby. “Anybody! Anyone! Help me! Save me! Please save me from the Shroobs!”
“What was that?” asked Yoshster looking out the entrance of his hut.
“Someone’s in trouble,” replied Yoshi. “I have been hearing that something weird was going on as of late. Something about flying dinner plates and invading shrubs, I think.”
“Weird,” commented Yoshster scratching his head as he tried to imagine that.
“Maybe, but I am going to try and help whoever that is,” instructed Yoshi. “You hurry back to the village. Till we figure out what is going on, everyone should stay together in the village. Tell that to the others when you get there and apologize to them. Can I count on you?”
“Of course you can!” Yoshster answered in a sincere voice.
“I’m happy to hear that,” smiled Yoshi handing him over the cookies. “I’m going to have to entrust you with bringing these cookies back. It’ll be better if you’re the one to return them too. Now get going.”
“Please! Anyone! Help, by boogity!” the voice cried again and Yoshi ran to where it was coming from to offer his aid.
“See you at the village, Yoshster!” Yoshi called to him.
“See you there,” Yoshster waved bye to him. When he disappeared into the jungle, Yoshster turned his gaze to the cookies once more in his possession. “Right after I have a little more to eat.”
Drooling as he returned into his hut, he started munching up the cookies. He munched them so loudly, he didn’t hear the strange noises in the sky above as a trio of flying saucers stopped overtop of his secret hideout and started to land.
