Most of the plants are real (collected and dry preserved) and the rockwork is hand sculpted with quartz crystals inside the 'cave.' This piece is meant to represent how death brings life: a forest fire results in more fertile soil and a lusher regrowth, one animal dies to nourish another, and every death feeds the soil and thus feeds the forest, just as a whole forest seems to sprout from this real deer skull. Life is death and death is life.
