Selkies are Fae! They can take off their skin and become human. Though if their skin is stolen they cannot return to the ocean, Often females have their skin stolen and are taken as wives, in their human form they are considered some of the most beautiful maidens. Careful though! If a Selkie ever finds her skin she will leave right away and forget what it was like to be 'mortal'
