When a prey sees this, there is just one question. Suffocation, death by digestion or getting scared to death. For a simple practice this maw looks amazing. I can actually imagine it stretching over various creatures, encompassing and consuming their bodies for the snake's sustenance.

I'd be more worried by the CO2 building up actually.
But yeah, some reptiles and amphibians can survive a while without air.
I heard that a Lab snake once ate a Frog alive, over 1 hour later when it was handled, it regurgitated it and the frog was still alive and a bit off colour.
