Blood of the Family – Devotion~Location: Lina Evoluzion’s Small Viridian City Home, Time: Several Hours before Cain and Thomas meet~
Lina was tearing through the small home, gathering up everything possible into one bag, clothes, food, necessities, everything. She was stuffing it full with the panicked speed of a mon possessed as she cried the whole while “No, not here, not here!!! If daddy finds out about Tak then he’ll… he’ll… No!! I can’t let that happen! I just can’t!!! ” she thought to herself as she raced frantically through the house “I’ve got to get away before he gets here!! ”
As she was doing this a knock came at the door. Tak stood outside waiting, looking rather cheerful. Heck, this morning Lina had invited him over to her house, why wouldn’t he be cheerful? He knocked again after getting no response from the first one. He waited a few more minutes, then his sensitive ears picked up the sound of frantic movement in the house. He leaned in to listen and accidentally pushed door open, it was unlocked the entire time.
He stepped inside and watched in slight stupefaction as Lina rushed around crying and piling clothes, food, bottled water, and any thing she could get her hands on into an already overstuffed bag. She was in such a rush she didn’t even notice the befuddled lucario watching her. Finally he stepped forward “Lina? What’s going on?”
Lina abruptly stopped and looked to Tak as if in shock. She suddenly flung herself into his arms, blubbering and crying as she talked so quickly and desperately as to be incomprehensible to the lucario. Tak blinked “Wha…?” still not getting the situation at all as Lina took his moment of confusion to grab her bag and run out the door full speed.
It took a moment for Tak’s already confused brain to process this but he was soon pursing Lina at full speed “Hey Lina! Wait!” he called. Lina was racing across the sidewalk and paths with wild, reckless abandon. Despite this, she seemed to be too panicked to run straight and Tak soon caught up. Getting in front of Lina the lucario spread his arms wide to block her and called out “Hold on a minute and tell me what’s going on.”
The espeon girl skidded to a halt and stared at Tak with wide fearful eyes. He flinched a little; afraid this might somehow be his fault, before Lina threw herself onto him and started crying into his shirt. He reflexively held her trying to calm the girl and getting a very strong déjà vu feeling about this. As soon as Lina had stopped crying hard he gently led her to a nearby bench, Tak sighed “Now will you please tell me what’s going on?”
~Location: Viridian Park, Time: About Twenty minutes after Tak managed to catch up to Lina~
Tak sat there a little stunned. Lina had gone over it twice with him and he still wasn’t quite sure he grasped it “So… you’re dad’s a cruel murderous monster who hates all non eevees and spent most of your childhood doing Arceus know what to you?” Lina nods “And apparently he’s coming to kill that boy you were crushing on before me for some reason?” Again Lina nods. Tak blinks “Okay… that sounds like a bad movie plot…” Lina sniffles a little as she whimpers “But it’s true…”
Tak suddenly hugs her “I believe you, so don’t worry.” Leaning back a little he takes a deep breath, puffing his chest out to look more intimidating as he grins “Which is why I’m gonna protect you!!” he declared enthusiastically. Lina blinks confused and caught off guard by this “What? But… but Daddy will…” Tak immediately cut her off “Well if he wants to do anything to you he’ll have to get past ME first!” he shouted, pointing a thumb to his chest dramatically.
Lina sighed as she shook her head “No… I couldn’t live with myself if daddy hurt you, that’s why I’m running away before he comes looking for me…” again Tak cut her off “No way, running never solved anything. We’re going to face this guy down here and now.” He said with a strong tone of voice and Lina just shook her head sadly “No… please don’t… its better this way; you don’t know what daddy would do…” “I don’t need to know.” Tak said in a confident tone of voice “I promise you I won’t let him hurt you.”
Not able to argue with Tak’s decisiveness Lina got up grabbing her bag again “But we still need to get away, we shouldn’t face daddy if we have a chance of escaping.” She said again starting to head off, Tak hot on her heals “I’m telling you running won’t solve anything!” he exclaimed as the two headed off, still debating this.
~Location: Clearing in Viridian Forest, Time: A few hours later as Cain finishes Thomas off~
Cain casually lifts Thomas’s prone body up to inspect it, looking over his handy work with mixed emotions as he massaged the flesh near one of his implants with his free hand “Hmmm… I could have done this a lot cleaner… I must be loosing my touch.” He remarked, slightly distracted by the throbbing in his head. He sighed, putting this out of his mind as he considered whether to finish the near dead absol off or just leave him here and hope the ferals would eat him.
Just then a strong wind began blowing threw the trees, this in itself was not really a distraction to Cain but his sensitive nose twitched a little, catching a familiar scent. It was a rather ignored fact but eevee and their evolutions had noses just as keen as any other canine mon, sometimes better. Now Cain lacked the formal tracking and hunting training some other morph’s had but he was familiar with this scent.
“Lina… what the hell is my daughter doing out here!” he swore aloud as he threw Thomas aside towards the center of the clearing and headed towards the smell “And who the HELL is she with!!” he swore even louder.
~Viridian Forest Hiking Trail~
“Lina, why are we taking a hiking trail again? If you wanted to get out of the city wouldn’t the main roads be faster?” Tak asked, not really minding the rough trail, it was better then some of the roads at the monastery at least. Lina sighed, she was a little annoyed now that Tak had finally managed to calm her out of panic mode. She was also worried about how much time they’d lost because of their arguing whether to run or stay “Because Daddy is probably having some of his assistants watching the main roads so Thomas won’t be able to run. This is safer.”
“I still think this is a bad idea, both running and leaving this Thomas kid to his fate, it seems a little heartless…” Lina stopped and sniffled a little “I know… but… you don’t know what Daddy does to people… Thomas…” she looked down a little, the gravity of abandoning the absol now squarely on her shoulders “He wouldn’t stand a chance… no one would… Daddy’s too…” suddenly Lina felt Tak’s arms embrace her in an attempt to calm the distressed espeon “Easy.” Tak whispered to her “I already told you I will protect you, so stop worrying about what your father will do.”
Just then they both heard the snapping of twigs and the rustling of leaves that cold only mean something large was moving through the forest and by the sound of it heading right for them! Tak immediately took up a combat stance in front of Lina who seemed rather caught off guard by this as she stepped back a little “W-what do you think is coming?” Tak responded in a focused voice “Probably a feral, sounds big too.”
“T-then we should hurry up before it gets...” Lina started to pipe up as she began up the trail only to suddenly freeze with a shocked, horrified look on her face, her cracked gem glowing meaning she was in the process of using psychic powers. Tak noticed this “Lina? Lina what’s wrong?” he asked, hurrying to her. The shell shocked girl just stood there shaking with fear and murmuring “No, no, no, no, no…” Concerned Tak gently shook her, trying to snap her out of it “Lina, come on Lina! Hey! Talk to me!”
It was then Tak felt an unusual chill run down his spine as he turned to face the forest as he felt the fur on the back of his neck stand up. The sound of whatever it was rushing through the forest had ceased as something, or rather someone, Tak had never seen before stepped out of the woods and onto the trail.
It was an older mon, an eevee, wearing the tattered remains of a blue business suit that looked like it had somehow been ripped apart from the inside out and had some splattered blood on it, not to mention the blood on his claws. What was more disturbing, if that was possible, were these weird metal… things on ether side of the guy’s head that seemed to be wildly giving off sparks. The mon looked at them for a moment, his expression blank. He seemed to be trying to grasp exactly what he saw. His lips curled back into an angry, vicious snarl and Tak gulped, suddenly not feeling so confident.
