Ohh I didn't think Goleo was Bavarian. :)

Though he's now as obscure as "Rolf" the maskot for the new 5 digit postal codes.
Or Twipsy, the mascot for the Expo 2000 which had its own TV series which I've just now seen the opening titles of.

I know this comment is 5 years later and dunno if you will respond, but how would you draw a German character?
(Looking at this drawing cause the european cup mascot just got revealed btw, lol)
Is there anything iconic aside from Bavarian culture in Germany that would make foreigners recognize it (aside from World War uniforms?)?

But the artist intentionally gave the soccer mascots clothes distinct for their nation ... normal clothes was not the aim here. That's why I asked you: How would You draw a German character in distinct national clothes that are instantly recognizable?
Also holy moly, quite the strong mean-spirited opinion you have there. I see it as completely harmless when a foreigner draws us with Lederhosen.

Probably like Goleo in the picture. There's no iconic German national clothing anywhere aside from Bavaria, which is similar to Austrian and Swiss.
The only other way would probably be with suspenders like Von Kaiser in Punchout, cause it references old timey Germans. If you tell a foreigner to describe how a German looks like with typical national clothing and ask to strictly exclude the Alp region there probably is just a big blank in their mind aside from WW1 and 2 uniforms.
That's why I was curious how you'd draw him.
From your answer I suppose you'd dodge it entirely and just go with normal clothes.
