I decided to throw this up since it's been a while since I posted some music. I found this in a folder I haven't touched in months. It was my first real attempt at using garage band (which I need to get out of). This is my favorite song on Niel Youngs album "After the Gold Rush"

I think it also has to do with what your used to. Most people mixing songs for a modern audiance will sacrafice a accompaniment to showcase the vocals (or the front man in other words) The issue I have with this is that you dont get to hear the rest of band or get the full effect of the piece. One of the advantages to producing your own music is that you get to decide how you want to sound and in my case I like to give a more balenced vocal/instrument ratio.
If you think I'm pulling this out of my ass I have a challenge:
get a hold of Jimi Hendrix greatest hits both on cd and old vinal and listen to how they toned down his epic guitar playing so you could hear his vocals more clearly. You will hear the same thing on Bob Dylans stuff and almost everything else.
Any way that would be my shortish explanation:)
