pimpartist He says, "This is a piece commissioned by the lovely chrismukkah who is also a big history fan, and one of the first people I talked to here on FA!
The Harlem Hellfighters, or the 369th Infantry Regiment of the United States, was the first African American regiment to fight with the Expeditionary forces in WW1. They were completely segregated by race however they earned their name not because of their race but because of their outstanding bravery and determination. They earned their nickname since they never lost a man to capture, a trench or a foot of ground to the enemy. The French called them The Men of Bronze. Interesting fact: Tiana's father from Disney's "The princess and the frog" most likely fought and died in this regiment."
The commissioner, chrismukkah says, "This is a great gem I got from pimpartist with his take on one of the more 'forgotten' armies we had during World War I - The Harlem Hellfighters.
I learned about them through https://www.amazon.com/Harlem-Hellf.....+graphic+novel
But there is also https://www.amazon.com/Harlem-Hellf.....p;dpSrc=detail
And https://www.amazon.com/More-Unbendi.....p;dpSrc=detail
Seriously, read this. Read them all. Because while it takes courage to fight in a war; its MORE than that, when your own country you are fighting for has segregated you, degraded you and cannot accept the very fact of your bravery and existence."

True, although I've seen them with both Adrian helmets and British-style helmets http://taskandpurpose.com/wp-conten.....l_Fighters.jpg .
It was mostly an artistic choice since this style let me design some cool parallel lines - the helmet, the collar and some shadows in the uniform.
I appreciate your careful attention to detail and knowledge of history, though !
