Looking at me now, you'd be forgiven for thinking that I'd always adored rides. The truth though is more... Fate almost.
Way back when I was just turning 6, me and the family were taken to the first big theme park we'd ever been to. They say first impressions were everything but this wasn't the best introduction I must say.
Imagine. 5-year-old me stood before what was quite simply, a loud, roaring metal monster that made all the people who set foot upon it scream. The very sight of it rocked me.
Needless to say, the day that followed must have been disappointing to my folks. Ride after ride I refused to even go near. These machines were scary. These machines were evil.
With the late afternoon sun eventually setting in and with half an hour of park time remaining, I was stood before yet another ride. It had taken my parents all day to get me even close to it as it loomed over me. I quaked at the thought of what might happen the moment I set foot through the entrance.
It can take time to try new things. It can take courage to try new things. Especially when those new things are outwardly very imposing. All those screams, all that noise... Could those people on there really have been having fun? Who knows? There's only one way I would know for sure.

Musuko42 . He has this weird, almost unnatural ability to synthesise my exact childhood memories into pictures that convey exactly what I was thinking in those moments.
