I finally got something working with the light-up cheeks I bought from
DreamVisionCreations ...Let me tell you the saga. :P
So I bought the first set of cheeks back when I was first starting on the head, but the problem was they would not show through the teal fur, like at all. Even if I shaved down to the backing. They were red domes with red LEDs. I took the head to DV's booth at BLFC and asked them their opinion and the best they could suggest was to try white LEDs as they are brighter. So I took my set and removed the existing LEDs and got white ones and tried those and it seemed promising but by then I had messed with the wires so much they weren't staying lit so I gave up and ordered a new set with the red domes and white LEDs (these are about $40 after shipping btw). And even then I wasn't happy with how hard it was to see through the fur. I hacked the fur short on her cheeks and then regretted it because she was cuter with the fluffier cheeks.
And then finally I had the brilliant idea of trying to put the domes on TOP of the fur, buried in the pile, rather than underneath. So I made new cheek pieces and poked the domes through from the backs and attached them via little holes I drilled around the edges like buttons and cut her existing cheeks off and sewed the new ones on and FINALLY she had light up cheeks. :P Technically yes you can see them when they're off but its not so bad. I hope people like it, I think it looks better in person than it does in these photos.
