Dapper Dining in the Garden - art by Shikumo, tale by Ame
I'm posting at least one thing a day, all October long! (I said I would!: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8438014/ See?)
~
It's the fourth day of the month, so I'm posting pictures of my fourth character, who came after the snake, the spider and the shark.
Anomaly! The Slime! (Take a look in its folder if you don't know it.)

Shikumo, her post is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9733314/

Shikumo did this for me as a gift, because she was a fan of my works. I feel bad I never posted it, as if I didn't like it, though I had made it clear how much I appreciated the gesture in the comments on her post. I always feel like I'm not doing my part until I share it too, and add something of my own, to show that I really do care, and have continued to think about the art in question for long after it's done.
So, anyway, the actual scene: A naga in a tuxedo, snacking on cake and sipping eggnog. He must either be about to go to a fancy party, or is currently _at_ one, or he would have loosened that tie, would have begun to undress. You don't risk getting food on your best dinner jacket if it's past the time to wear it.
Therefore, let's say beforehand, because we know Anomaly is such a home-body. It sticks around Ame's house most of the time, and would hardly be at the mysterious party that Ame must be about to go to. So did Anom just bring Ame that snack? Has it just placed the plate on the little table, and is now about to melt and flow away in that cute little river of goo it turns into when it wants to move quickly?
Maybe so!
But even MORE interesting is this:
~
Ame sighed and flipped over the pages of his notebook. Ideas and motivation to write, why did they only ever come to him when he was quite unable to make use of them? Of course, the social bullwark that kept him away from a keyboard of any kind was probably exactly why his mind felt like it could be so open with the authoring activity. It was as if the task of actually typing out an idea being right in front of him made him and his muse reluctant. With no threat of actual work, his imagination came out to play.
He scribbled away in his notebook all the same. He had long ago given up on the boring garden party; just another high-society function that had only been arranged so that all the rich wives could gossip about this or that scandal or affair. That seemed to be the true purpose, even if the agenda had been slated as being a fundraiser for a public park or some such. The latest target of scrutiny was a woman who had been one of the core group of gossips only a month prior.
My how quickly they could be made to fall from their ivory towers.
Speaking of ivory, though...
A streaking, serpentining spear of snow sluiced along the ground, startling some and being totally unnoticed by others.
It was not snow, of course, it was slime. Creamy and white, but goo all the same.
Anomaly. It was in such a rush that it bunched up into a messy pile, the flowing river seemingly turning from rushing water into a long rubber ribbon for a moment. A thick puddle lay before the snake's little table, and Ame slung his tail around the gooey heap to hide it from any observant party-goers (scant though they may have been). The naga hoped that his formless friend would remain a puddle, to remain discreet.
"Ame! Come quick!" Anomaly gurgled, beginning to form up. Ame frowned momentarily, but mentally shrugged it off. This place could use some livening up, he would be happy to have a very visible, very obvious reason to depart without all the gracious farewells to all the right people. Let them gossip about him after he left!
Anomaly appeared from within his reservoir of self in quite the unkempt state, not the usual smooth featureless humanoid. It was still without distinguishing marks, of course, but it was anything but smooth. Odd tendrils flung and flailed off in random directions. "Ace and Ned got into the potions and.. well, you better come see."
"What? Didn't the emergency reversal solution work?"
"Uhh, well, I think they went through all of that a couple hours ago after they botched something else, and then what they were trying _now_ didn't seem to be working, so they took more, and.."
Ame had taken off his tophat and was rubbing his white-gloved hand down his face in disbelief and annoyance. "Oh, bother. Whatever it was, it wouldn't have been working properly if they were full of reversal potion!"
"I tried to tell them that, but--"
A monstrous roar could be heard echoing from far away - though not as far as it should have been, were his two colleagues still anywhere near his domicile and laboratory.
Maybe Ame wouldn't need to leave the garden after all. it seemed the real party had come to him.

Yeah, a little bit. He's normally a lot more cute: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7899170/
There is a perception of him as classy, and he can act the part. Once you get invited to one of these things and provided you're charming enough and well-dressed enough the first time to make a good impression on someone else who throws select soireés and shin-digs, garden parties.. well, then it'll happen again and again, until you're a fixture.
Although if some kind of monster spider-shark shows up here thanks to Amethystine, maybe that'll all stop.
[There's also the possibility that Ame knows people in high places because he has had clandestine dealings with high-society deviants who pay him to design potions with _very specific effects_ for them. Custom jobs.. >__> ]
