Not a bad piece! A few things: Have you ever read your work aloud? I know it sounds weird, but sometimes you pick up on little things, like repeating words and such. This approach will catch broken rhythm, repeating words, and run-on sentences faster than straight silent reading.

the surprise of the quick take off & his ability to right himself so quickly I'd say he's practiced it on animal , homemade/ready made set-up like a sawhorse , fence , (school) gyms (padded) balance beam or (mechanical) bull with hopes of one day .. combined with his not shouting to his companion immediately what the dragons were I'm not sure if he did ride & later thought it was just a dream or not
