This has been bouncing around in my head for a long time. I roll eyes at most of the furry vernacular and I know I'm not alone in that. The term "yiff" in particular is far too cutesy for my tastes...and that spawned this idea. It was going to be a red fox originally, but the fennec ended up working far better in terms of looking thoroughly unamused.

Because I know I'll probably catch some flak for this... This is meant to be tongue in cheek. Please try not to take this too seriously.

Hear, hear!
((Well... maybe not "sex" per se...
Perhaps a roll in the hay, a horizontal tango, a pickle-tickle, mushroom farming, walking the serpent, sheathing the sword or taking a trip to the butcher... but certainly not Yiff - cant stand the word... directly referencing the deed like that is kinda like an eye growing in the small of my back - it doesnt seem to belong there to me.
But, then, to each their own!))

Actually No on that too! Yiff, yip, yerf, yaff, yarf, growf and growlf are all old RP terms. Yiff meant Yes or Hello, then yip got turned into yipp which I think means good sex. Then something got lost in translation! Everyone stopped using the terms except for Yiff, which was then used incorrectly.
So when a furry says, "I totally yiffed yesterday," he/she is really saying, "I totally Yessed/Hello yesterday!"
So when a furry says, "I totally yiffed yesterday," he/she is really saying, "I totally Yessed/Hello yesterday!"
Highly doubt it, but it could have came shortly after. Later it was turned into Young Incredible Fuckable Furry! I thought is was that, until I found a link that told me different. Then I did more research in the past, but now the only thing I could find on such a short notice is http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/yiff
I can't say the word 'yiff' really bothers me all that much. I mean, it's just a word and it's really not anything to get myself worked up over. What does annoy me is when people make a habit of shouting it at the top of their lungs in public. You might as well be screaming "SEX!" across a shopping mall or something. I know the general public won't really know what it means, but I do and that's what makes it somewhat embarrassing. I have no problem with the word itself, or people who use it, but the way and the situation it's used in can sometimes make me consume my whole hand.
Haha. "Yiff" is one of the most hilariously awkward words in the current vernacular. I use it very rarely, and then only to elicit a negative reaction. Should say something, I think. :)
Well done. You achieved a great expression on the fennec's face with very few lines. I hope it sells well!

I couldn't agree more with this piece, i don't like the word yiff, and fur terminology, and such for the most part, for my own reasons, and such.
if i need to say something, i say it the normal typical way most would, sex, hands, facepalm, not...ehh.....Yiff, paws, or facepaw..... :X
I know some people online on fur sites like this, talk in fur lingo, and so be it, its there choice, not gonna nag anyone about it, unless its warranted, or i have a reason (like if there being a dickhole about me not wanting to speak furslang, or if there just asking for it to put it simply) but yeah, i don't have to do it, my choice, and everyone else has there own choice to say, and type whoever they speak.

Haha. I twitch at MOST furry vernacular, with a few exceptions. I refuse to use the term yiff for rl sex - it doesn't compute with me. But for anything online, RP-wise in furry form, I still do use it sometimes. For online purposes, I use the words yiff, have sex, make love, and fuck for sex, dependent on my mood and the tone I want to set for the activity - but I completely understand how the term yiff can make some people scratch their heads or even sneer a bit. Hell, "Furiend" and the annoying habit some furs have to otherwise integrate the word "fur" into as many English words as possible, meanwhile butchering the English language, makes me twitch to no end! ;.; *Grin* But it's not a big deal at the end of the day though, as I think most of us know, but some forms of furry vernacular make me twitch inside a bit anyhow. *snicker*
Had a great laugh at this. +faved for appreciation and the laugh it gave me! :D
I'm pleased that folks seem to be taking this well and either laughing at it and themselves or agreeing with it and chuckling as well. Woot.

1: lol. Love it.
(god i hate the word lol)
2: hee. I see yiff as being, more specifically, "I do this on the internet with, specifically, other furries,"
i.e. completely a fake act. (yiff is sort of like porn. Mildly enjoyable but not at all real)
whereas sex is the act of actually doing i in real life x3

I kind of see a separation between terms and where they are used. Ill use yiff playfully because its a cute word, but its not something youd hear me utter in the middle of adult-themed fun. XD
I can understand if you dont want to use the terms, but damn do some people get pissed off by the words other people use. :/ Cant we just live and let yiff, or whatever other furry word based analogy you wanna toss in there?

I think you need to reread the message. Kitty wasn't "thinking for you". Let me interpret this:
"you not being a furry is ok in my books and long as its ok in your books that im a furry. which i think it is ^_^"
So basically, Kitty's saying that she's cool with you not being a furry...as long you're alright with her being a furry.
She's trying to be friendly, not think for you. So no offense, but calm your tits.

I hate those furry terms. >> They sound so reta- ...silly.
You know how sometimes some people have kiddy words that toddlers use for their bodyparts during potty training? Yiff sounds like a word that you'd use to explain what sex is to a four year old after they catch you watching something questionable(Apparently, some people do this). It sounds that stupid. It really does.
The english language is dumbing down enough as it is. We don't need any silly toddler words for sex.

A Rose by any other name smells just as sweet.
Complaining about changes, localisations or the usage of subcultural slang in the English language is as pointless as complaining that we no longer say forsooth or ye. Language evolves, develops, subdivides, takes new and subtly different meanings. What's important is not standardisation, nor maturity, but meaning and understanding. If a silly word like yiff conveys a meaning adequately, then I can see no harm nor foul.

Therein lies the problem...to a number of people, it DOESN'T convey a meaning very well. It can be offputting or downright confusing to folk new to the fandom, and really a major turnoff for folk like me who don't enjoy the furry vernacular.
I for one don't "yiff," I have sex. Hence why I like this picture so well.

I <3 this. NO REALLY. Kinda want it on a button, LOL!!!
I share your sentiments on the term "yiff." I posted this beastie a few years back and to date, it is still the most-viewed of anything I've ever drawn: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/160720/
DOWN WITH "YIFF," I like sex. :D

I don't care enough about the topic to have an opinion. To a degree. I don't mind, because it doesn't throw me for a loop. I guess I just don't have the same... Mental reactions others have.
If a single word throws you into a berserker rage, that's bad. Having a trigger like that is unhealthy at best and dangerous at worst. Clearly, some sort of help is needed.

I heard the term Yiff and simply shrugged it off. I then thought to myself, where does this word come from. "Friend!, where does this term come from" "Foxes make that noise when they bark." "No they don't, that's the dumbest sound I OMG YOU'RE FUCKING RIGHT!" heh, its just another word, it should only be used online, because it you sound like an ass saying it in the real world, similiar to trolling, lawl, and roflmao, just saying.
I had to fave this. I love the truth in this. I don't like reading that word and I can't imagine hearing it and keeping a straight face xD Yeah it's cutesy, makes the act sound "fun" ((why does it need to "sound" fun in the first place. It IS fun xD)) but it's too childish for my taste.
And mate sounds off to me. I'd never call my bf my mate, he's my other, my lover, my boyfriend, but never my mate :) Well unless he were my aussie friend x3
And fur being plastered over practically everything D:
Good show

Love it, between yiffing and mates, I have a hard time getting through the day without dry heaving within this fandom. I would go one step further and if ya pardon my french, I don't yiff, I fuck. But then I am of a dark and dominating mindset.
Also its good to rile furries up, they take everything too seriously, which is ironic given the childish nature of said slang.
*Clearly does not get around much, to be commenting in this time frame. *

yiff is probably the worst word the fur community has created to describe anything involving sex. My thing is sex is sex and shouldn't be described any other way. as for the terms mate and furiend that depends on how deep u are in the animal kingdom.
Faveing cause its true and so damn cute!!!!

THANK YOU.
I'm so sick of hearing, "Hi! Wanna yiff/RP?"
Lolnothanks.
I've always HATED RPing/yiffing/typefucking. I don't get it, really, What's so sexy about it? I could go have real sex with someone withut having to think of clever ways of saying, "Hehehe I touched your thingie."

Now I want to take some attention from the original artist, and make you one question... What was the intention on this? To distinguish oneself from the "yiffers" ones? To denounce people's attitude on the Internet, with the excessive (furry) pornography? To advice others to taste real sex and don't live in a fantasy world?
I would appreciate much your response, lokis.
Attentively,
a curious writer.

The intention is some lighthearted poking fun at a silly fandom-specific word that has both its fans and it's haters. It wasn't done with any serious intentions - just a little tongue-in-cheek humour. People are welcome to add their own more serious interpretations to it, but it was primarily done to give a chuckle to others who aren't a fan of the word and its silly connotations. As evidenced above, there are plenty!
Old post, but.. I had to say, this is so true!
"Yiff" is one of those words newcomers to the fandom learn and are like "This must be the lingo, I MUST USE IT ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!" not realizing how ridiculous it sounds.
Anyone in the fandom more than a few months stops using it quickly. I *THINK* these days everyone has learned that it's cliché so even newbies don't use it much anymore, but holy crap it was everywhere when I started in the fandom in the mid-90s.
