If it's the "TSA" I think it is...then they're the security guards found at every American airport who try to protect everyone from terrorism by assuming everyone is a terrorist. They frequently like to search personal belongings in a rough manner that most other countries would deem illegal, unlawful or unwarranted. It's not uncommon for luggage and other items searched by the TSA to be damaged in the process, and in extreme cases, some items can and will be confiscated with no explanation, warrant or cause.

Forgive my ranting...although I personally haven't had any encounters with the TSA, a lot of my friends have, and their horror stories about it have made me wary.

BTW, for anyone who is reading this, if you plan on going anywhere that doesn't require crossing an ocean, GO BY LAND. This means either drive there, or take a bus or a train. This way, you'll never have to deal with TSA, because they only patrol the airports.

I wouldnt say "that other countries would deem illegal..." I travel for a living, and I hate the whole TSA BS as much as the next guy - we all know the truth of the matter is its meant to make the traveling public feel safer, because in reality, if the terrorist types want to plan it right, they can skirt any security and fuck stuff up. - anyway, back to what I was saying about the illegal etc. bit...

I travel for work, and I have had stuff roughed up, destroyed, and disappear almost in every country I have been to.

Most recent, Tel Aviv Israel, they pried a 170 dollar laptop charger apart with me watching... I got a form to get reimbursed, I filed, never got it...

I have seen the same crap everywhere, so while the TSA might have fucked it up here, theres a good chance it would have got fucked up elsewhere just as easily.

I got them refund me the price of my fursuit case because I put a TSA approved lock on it and they cut it (and the BAG closing piece!) off with a bolt cutter.

OMG I'd be SO pissed.

I bring heads on the plane as carry on (we can fit three in a dufflebag that counts as carry on) - just because they're a lot easier to damage then the rest of the suit.

Hopefully you can get some kind of compensation for this damage.

You can file a claim to TSA. More than likely, it will be rejected because it's not business/government property, but, you never know.

Claims they look at, but take a long while, while complaints... Not so much attention. Alone, LAX (LA's Airport) loses 120 laptops -weekly-, if I remember right. Those people will more than likely have something done because they classify certain claims and losses under certain things. Laptops and other pricey electronics or personal belongings are usually top of the list, fursuits, likely to fall under "Misc", unless it's a company/educational institute/entertainer mascot.

Like I said before, if it's not coming from the mouth of some government/business power, nothing, or very little, will likely get done. Relate yourself to the dude who had his guitar thrown recently, and you may get a little more attention. Good luck on that, though, you'll need it.

That's normally what most .gov sites are, but in word form. The most of it is just like Apples iTunes end user agreement, where one portion basically states that you can't, and won't, use iTunes to develop, modify, or reconstruct missiles, either explosive, nuclear, or biological. It makes no sense at all.

They might have been checking inside the material, for any sort of illegal paraphernalia. You'd be surprised what conceals drugs nowerdays. I've seen from pillows to sweaters.

It does suck that you have damage on your suit though.

They're not supposed to damage property at all, even if searching for drugs. They have a new test where they rub a cloth on an object, stick it in a machine, and quicktests it for any harmful things, like explosive powder, or drugs. On top of that, if they want to double check, they can x-ray it again, or they hold your object for (I think) 24-48 hours for testing, which they don't normally do because of the paperwork involved.

Arse wipes. I live in fear of this sort of thing happening to me. God knows, I've heard enough horror stories. I really hope White can fix this for you.

Hmmm... Next time try to find an address you can mail your suit to so you can fly there while it is mailed, might be better for it than making it go through security again.
