Jason Jupiter for Java - click to play
With some enthusiasm for working on things gradually returning to me, I put together this during the week. It's an MMF2 Java applet translation of one of the first games that I remember having on the Amstrad, Jason Jupiter (I think I got it from PC Plus - does anyone else in Britain remember it?) The game was entirely constructed out of ASCII characters, which I've imitated graphically.
There are eight levels - collect all the hearts and then get to the E on each.
Controls are O and P to move left and right, and hold down Q with a direction to jump. Watch out for the char #2 inverted smilies and the stars - both are deadly.

I used to use both - Megazeux was the system I've been least productive in, as I've finished at least one game in everything else I've tried. It seemed to occupy a strange place between ZZT and more extensive game creation systems, where you really had to use the trickery beneath its surface to step away from the normal ZZT-like game model to produce something really noticeable.
I can't remember any other ZZT clones enjoying anywhere near the following of the original even though they were objectively... better. The core ZZT community is still going strong to this day, even if its population does range from the degenerates to the criminally insane.

I was, the same name as I use on the Clickteam boards! It's good to meet other members of that community on here :)
I do have the Flash exporter (this was made during that brief phase when the Java one was the only way of creating a browser game) - though since releasing this I switched it over to a system that loaded levels from external files, and can't remember the method to revert it back again to re-export it ;) I'll have to see if I can do it, though, because I'd love to have it around Newgrounds and so on - thanks for reminding me!
