I took in Zoie about five years ago, when her previous owner could no longer take care of her. She was an easygoing critter who fit well into the household. I grew fond of the old soft-furred purrer.
But today, I came home from a camping trip to discover that Zoie had suffered a "saddle thrombosis" - a blood clot had cut off circulation to her hind legs, which were basically dead. Worse, she had stopped eating and drinking - very unusual for Zoie, and a sure death sentence from dehydration.
I took her to the vet, of course. The vet confirmed that there was no cure, no good prospects - and since Zoie was in a lot of pain, recommended euthanasia. I accepted her advice. She gave Zoie an injection, whereupon my old fat cat quietly passed from this vale of tears while I held and stroked her.
I just finished burying her body. I'll make a little marker for her grave, later.
Goodbye, Zoie. If there is such a thing as cat heaven, I have no doubt you're in it.

It hurts a lot. I know what you are going through.
Best of luck.

goddess bless you sweet Karno and keep you well. You've taken in and took care of one of her children when they needed it, and they loved you for it. Please don't fret. she will remember you in dreams and blessings for your kind and loving heart.
and if you desire it, she'll find another of her children to bring to your door to help replace the pain of the one you lost. Take care please and thank you from her through her servant. We love you both one and all..

I bet tou could wish you could back in time before you went on your camping trip to try and prevent like stop it.
Or at least spend more time with her.
I know how that feels because I too went through that with my Pug.
Never said good bye to him much less spend one last time with him.
For I was out front doing cookout with my folks and when it was all over with my Pug passed away in the Kundera room.
Wondering where was I? Why wasn't I there to say goodbye to him or even spend one last time with him?
All the regrets.

I am sure she is in her fondest place, awaiting the time you will arrive to be welocmed home as well. Until then I am sure she will visit, being with you in rough times and being her usual self to make you laugh. If ever something happens that reminds you of her, it probably is. Our closest loved ones are never gone forever, they visit to keep the love alive. You are clearly of the type to visit from the hereafter.
You were a prince for taking her in, and it's wonderful that she had those years with you instead of ending up at the shelter. And you fulfilled the last and most difficult duty we have to our furry kids. It's something everyone who loves a pet has to face. God knows I have. Nothing more i can say.
