And I've joked before that I'm glad I can't REALLY talk to cats, because then I wouldn't WANT to talk to cats...

It's nothing you want to go through, believe me. It's a surgery where you literally have a portion of your frontal lobe removed. It was used to control extremely violent psychotics before the drugs were created. It often left the patient a drooling mess, or so the common image would have us believe. I'm not certain how much actual cognitive ability is wiped by the procedure, but I doubt I'd be the same afterwards. But I thought it would be funny to have me not reacting at all to such an invasion of my person. *giggle*

Yup. But it supposedly did help some people. The operation was pretty crude in the early days before good psychotherapy drugs became available and it's thankfully no longer performed.

Not quite- the "successful" patients kept most of their native intelligence, but they were made very passive by the procedure. Unfortunately, it left far more completely passive to the point of catatonia. And I was a bit in error: the operation severed nerve-clusters to the frontal lobes, not removed parts ofthe brain. either way, it was discontinued as an operation because better treatments became available (anti-depressant and anti-psychotic drugs).

The only "worthless" human beings are the selfishly evil and cruel. Them, I'd gladly lobotomaize... Grrr.
