Two species and traditional dress of extreme north-east India, one of the prettiest and biologically diverse places on the planet, also the tea capital of the world! Praise Darjeeling and Assam. :D
Blurb:
The red panda is the national animal of Indian state/kingdom of Sikkim, and a mascot for many local organizations including the Darjeeling tea festival :D, and she's wearing the traditional dress of the Lepcha people, the area's original inhabitants. The binturong is also found all over as well, and he is wearing a tribal Mishmi outfit from the jungles farther east in Arunachal Pradesh. Tribal people there and other countries sometimes keep them as pets even. I'm a total culture geek and had fun studying these, plus this area has way too many cool animals and tribes to ignore. I may do some other world areas soon.
Is it me or does bintuguy look a bit annoyed. Dx

Yo Thumbclawzman! big up for this masterpiece, your characters are extraordinaire, specially the binturong. i never heard 'bout this species despite he's frequently drawn here. to read your description, it gives me envy to go visit this place, indeed. thank you, Thumblacwzman .
Oh yay fellow culture geek! I probably know less, but I LOVE the fashions and such of culture, so this is just AWESOME to me. (ok this reminds me to shut up and finish my wild feline/culture calender I've been working on for 2 years!!!)
Anywho, I love the red panda's dress, so pretty and thanks for exposing me to it. I'm looking for a dress I like/culture to research as part of making a persona for the SCA, and since you have the name up there I can check it out and see if I want to make that garb.
Woot, overall, it's a great pic and I must say the background is beautiful too :D

Lepchas have fun clothing, but the more Tibetan leaning cultures of the same area are more flashy and intricate. There are so many different tribal cultures and modes of dress you will have plenty of inspiration nearly anywhere. Even within India, most people wouldn't ever recognize the clothing of the minorities, which number in the thousands, same goes for surrounding countries, especially tribes of South China, the Americas, Subsaharan Africa and New Guinea.
I'm having a hard time researching everything, I had a sketch going for Tibetan snow leopards, but then I realized "oh, I have them in a 'summer' scene but in 'winter' clothing' oi, rookie mistake!
Well, I guess artist's license to go and do whatever looks pretty, I adore silver jewelry and its fun to go through this HUGE book of cultural costumes I was given. It's gigantic but full color and spans most of the world (maybe not each and every culture, but many). Anywho, I love watching you cause it's fun to see what you've found and what you draw from it (literally). Keep it up, it will keep serving as a reminder to finish my projects.

Awesome picture. The female is really cute and the male quite handsome and pretty cute as well (old adolescent who's been made to pose for a photo maybe? :P).
Loved the information that went along with the picture as well. Learning new stuff about different cultures and places is always fun. ^_^

Wow, I'm glad I fav'd ya ^__^
It's really refreshing to see REAL artwork every once in a while ^__^
Have you heard of an artist that goes by Extvia? If not, you might wanna check out his artwork, his artwork reminds me a bit of yours, but your styles differ somewhat. His is slightly more fantastical, yours seems to be more on the realistic side.
