Generally I also like to stay far away from Line 6 products because they really deal in digital music, but the Toneports are a cheap and nice way to record music with.
There are pretty much infinite ways to set up effects, amp models, cab models, mics, stompboxes, whatever. I record everything using it, but yeah it takes a lot of messing with and tweaking to get a nice digital distortion or light crunch sound.
